Paul Di'Anno passes away, age 66

I’ve been away from the Forum for a while but figured I’d log in to read people’s remembrances. It’s no exaggeration to say that he touched many lives, including my own. I will never forget spinning those first two albums, as well as Maiden Japan, over and over on the crappy turntable in my room when I was a teen. Formative years indeed. RIP, Paul.

I feared this would happen soon…the man have had some serious health issues innthe last ten years.

I love the two Maiden albums, and I will never forget seeing him live in 2006, that was a wild show with some old school Maiden tunes, a mad frontman and crazy good band. I hope you found your peace Paul <3

This is the second big lost in maiden family, after Clive. and much more unexpected than clive. so it hit hard.

There are many memories and great music he left for us. I always think remember tomorrow is the most emotional song ever by Maiden. the first personal song and one of the few directly personal songs (without any story or a veiled narration)...

I liked Jon Larsen's (Volbeat's drummer) message of condolence, saying "Nobody sounded like him, or looked like him". That's really the truth, even to this day!

One thing makes me glad is, the recent meetings of him with Steve and after that Bruce. That was sth like a closure, maybe making amends between them sort of thing...

Of course he had his inner demons, and fought with them all through his life. I remember talking to him in Istanbul, before his first (and the last) gig here, asking whether he had ever sing a song from Number of the Beast while he was in the band. And he told me sth like: "My memory is not good but I remember singing the chorus of Run to the Hills in a soundcheck". Whether that's correct or not, not important. He was kind enough to explain in honesty to a young fan. And years later I did an interview with him, he was again so nice to my nerdy questions... now I have to find that tape!

So thanks for all that Paul Di'Anno. May your soul rest in music...

And I hope Maiden makes a proper tribute to him at tonight's concert!

I think him singing RTTH chorus is incorrect, since Bruce wrote the vocal melody on that one.

Could be another song, tho.

Rest in Peace. Without Paul, there is no heavy metal as we know it today. The Iron Maiden debut had a significant impact on me upon first getting Iron Maiden. “Killers” is what broke them through into America. I’ve heard countless stories of people being drawn in Iron Maiden, and heavy metal, through those first two albums. Without DiAnno, those albums wouldn’t exist as they do today. A very sad and tragic passing, but I am glad he can rest easy now, especially seeing as his health was declining his last couple years.

I didn't find any messages from any metal band or musician except judaspriestarchive instagram account and Gary Holt instagram account
Geezer Butler posted on Twitter and Instagram:

And so did Tobias Sammet:

Rafael Bittencourt, Felipe Andreoli and Aquiles Priester (Angra) also posted on Instagram. Aquiles and Felipe also toured with him and played on his The Living Dead album.

Little late on this, but give 'em hell wherever you are Paul. I'm a fan of his approach on those early days songs, and no one else could've given them that punk-ish edge and energy (that Steve I'm sure still denies exists) that Paul did. I think everyone else has already said everything I would've better than I can, but suffice to say that even knowing about his health concerns, this was a bit of shock regardless.

Treasure the time you have and appreciate people while you're both still in the same realm. Happy travels and thank you for all you did for heavy metal Paul.

There is absolutely nothing punk musically whatsoever about anything on Maidens first 2 albums.

Never understood why people say this and always thought it was a lazy description just because Paul had short hair and was a bit of a geezer.
