This is an album full of missed opportunities. Several songs flirt with greatness, but are brought down by questionable choices around harmonies, phrasing, repetition, and overall structure. The band experiments with strings, but mostly to negative effect. The production is muddy, and Bruce strains to hit notes in several places.

That said, there's still a lot to like here, and there are a number of solidly good tracks on offer along with the mixed bags. "Rainmaker" is the only real standout, though.

A very experimental album for the band, but as a whole it works quite well. Some of the individual songs are suspect, and the production is the worst of any Maiden album, but there's a lot of great stuff within it to be found.
