There is absolutely nothing punk musically whatsoever about anything on Maidens first 2 albums.

Never understood why people say this and always thought it was a lazy description just because Paul had short hair and was a bit of a geezer.

To put it simple, people say that because it's true.

The debut has the production quality of a punk album and Paul had a yobbish attitude so there's that.

Musically, not so much except for maybe Sanctuary and Drifter.

I feel like the whole idea of the first Maiden album was punk energy but with good musicianship.

There's a pretty clear punk undercurrent found on the first couple of albums. That's not a bad thing, nor is it an insult. No idea why people are so averse to accept that.

I see Iron Maiden as pretty punk-y, mainly thanks to DiAnno. Killers less so and that was probably the reason why Paul left.

Paul was forced out after the Killers tour because he wasn't reliable but he has himself said many times since then that it was the right decision to get rid of him.

Yeah. But that was a direct result of him becoming disinterested in the music, which he also admitteb by himself.

Paul liked punk, that was about it. Maybe there's a bit of shame and self loathing from metal fans because punk is "cool" and has "cred" whereas metal has neither, and therefore they wish there was a bit of punk on there, but there isn't.

No offence, but there isn't a hope in hell of Sid Vicious being able to play that bass line.
