Paul Di'Anno passes away, age 66

There is absolutely nothing punk musically whatsoever about anything on Maidens first 2 albums.

Never understood why people say this and always thought it was a lazy description just because Paul had short hair and was a bit of a geezer.
The debut has the production quality of a punk album and Paul had a yobbish attitude so there's that.

Musically, not so much except for maybe Sanctuary and Drifter.

Musically there's nothing to do with punk on there, I can't imagine the Sex Pistols even being able to play Charlotte or Prowler, nevermind Phantom.

Paul liked punk, that was about it. Maybe there's a bit of shame and self loathing from metal fans because punk is "cool" and has "cred" whereas metal has neither, and therefore they wish there was a bit of punk on there, but there isn't.

The Pistols and most punk bands of the era could've played Sanctuary (minus the harmonies).
