The Future Past Tour 2024

Given the trajectory of the band members' ages, health conditions, and what we know of their future plans, I would say the chance of them playing anything from X Factor or later ever again is near 0. I think all Somewhere in Time songs outside of Wasted Years are out. CIPWM and Prisoner are probably out just because they will make room for other songs from those albums that haven't been played in awhile.

This will be a special tour in terms of once in a lifetime opportunities to hear certain songs, but there are probably at least a third of the songs on each tour going back to TFF that are in that category.

You might get a BNW song, or a new album song, if there ever is a new album, but agreed no hope of anything else.

You're probably only 50:50 for anything other than FOTD from the 90s on the forthcoming tour as well.

I won’t be surprised if the whole 1986-1992 period is condensed into a few songs. The marketing on this tour is clearly leaning into early days territory, which makes sense given that they haven’t had a show with a heavy focus on anything pre-Piece of Mind since 2005 (or 2007 if you count the half-hearted NOTB celebration).

I love it when a plan comes together. One of the chefs where I work approved my time off request yesterday for November 2nd, so having said that...

...SCREAM FOR ME, BROOKLYN! Sixteen days until Eddie and the boys take over the Barclays Center. I hope that ya'll in the states are just as amped as I am for your date of the tour. We full-on know the excitement of the days winding down to seeing Iron Maiden in concert, and this time around the event is for us, the super-fans.

I was at the Portland show and the Tacoma show. For one thing, the Tacoma Dome is very weird, it's very small and kinda feels more like a county fair/rodeo venue than a concert hall. It was a much smaller crowd, floor half full (if that) and my ticket was very cheap, $25. With that said, the band was much more on in Tacoma than Portland and I think the Washington audience was treated to one of their better nights on tour. No major slips from Nicko and Bruce sounding about as good as you could expect. I enjoyed both nights!
Drove down from Vancouver to the Tacoma show, I found it really weird how much empty space was on the floor between the mix and the back bleachers. For me I think Vancouver last year was stronger but I also wonder how much of my enjoyment was impacted by the odd empty space compared to being side stage last year. That being said I thought the band did really well and Bruce seemed in a pretty solid mood.

Don’t worry about it, just tell him he can play whichever solos he wants on the X Factor through Senjutsu tour they’ll do the next time around (and see if he buys it!).
Janick will be with the least amount of solos, but I guess it will be the same amount as for the current tour. I really hope there will be a Part 2 of the new tour - even for 1 year - and especially if they don't release a new album. But maybe it would be more like from BNW onwards because of Adrian, not that they will play more than 1-2 songs from the Blaze era again (or at all), so he'd have enough solos.

I think their current form will be their best playing from now on and that's totally fine for me.

Btw, there are still some issues with the monitors and Adrian ''guides'' Nicko here and there:

Obviously we're not entirely sure about the band's future plans. But which songs will the band never play again after this tour's over?
All new songs, not sure about Writing (Hell On Earth due to length; or Alexander). Of the other songs, I think only the usual classics have a chance. The others will have to make room. Although songs like Stranger and Madness are easy for the band.

I think songs from BNW and maybe from another Reunion album (DOD/AMOLAD) are expected for future tours. Some simplified ofc. Agreed with the last comment.

I feel this period (1986-1992) could be represented by 3-5 songs in the set. The marketing is more early days, but the setlist won't be like the 2005 one, I'm sure. As I said before, this tour will make the most sense if they play more than 2 90's songs and maybe if they do a Part 2 of it.

That makes two shows that we were both at (I attended Vancouver last year as well). Next time we should get a west coast Maidenfans meetup going!

I agree with all of that though, it was a weird vibe and felt more like being at a county fair or a rodeo than a Metal concert, but honestly once Maiden hit the stage I was able to let that go by song 2 or 3. It helped that they really brought their best performances that night IMO. Also, I know people on here like to make fun of Bruce apparently not wanting to play smaller venues, but I appreciated that he brought the same energy to Tacoma Dome and made it feel like a sold out football stadium. Other artists may have treated this stop as one that you don't need to put that much effort in for.

Of the three shows I saw I definitely think Vancouver 2023 was the best, but by all accounts the band had really pulled it together by that Canadian leg and I think we were lucky to catch them with the benefit of being solid on the setlist while also having had a bit of a break since their last shows. Not for nothing, the best crowd energy of the three shows for me was in Portland, but a lot of that could be based on where I was sitting. That was the only show of the three where people around me seemed to engage with the new material.

As you can see in this video, the floor was barely half full, more like 40%. Also, the upper deck on the sides was covered with black tarps.
Tacoma must be the lowest selling show on this tour. Looks like Baltimore will be similar too sadly.

I don’t know why promoters didn’t book in Washington DC again, they sold out the 20k Capital One Arena in 2022.

Sure seemed like it.

How about the Early Years tour? Did they toss Jan a bone and get him to do some? Was so long ago I can’t remember.
Yes, he did play some. I don’t remember the details about who played what, but some people on the official board were furios how Janick could take some of Adrian’s solos. There was a petition about if it was time for Maiden to finally sack Janick, so his out of tune guitar could stop destroying classic solos. I think he played at least a solo in Phantom of the opera, Halloweed be thy name and Revelations

The solos Janick played during the 2005 tour were:

Trooper
Revelations
Phantom
Hallowed
Drifter (additional solo)

Only 5! Melodies and guitar licks for Murders and Wrathchild. We have to say that 3 songs in the set were without solos. The same amount of solos he played during the ME tour. The next 2 tours after 2005 were also low on solos for him, while during the previous 3 he played more solos than Adrian, iirc.

Adrian giving some of his solos was normal (3 guitars after all) and he suggested it (iirc), but some of his solos indeed should be played in their original. They are that good. Some of Janick's versions are cool though.

Quick post:

janick > adrian: Hallowed.
adrian > janick: 22 acacia avenue, heaven can wait.

But does he play to a click track?
I think he has visual click. Something that Neil Peart used to do. A blinking light.

Also, Adrian is coaching Nicko through the whole gig. During almost every song he goes up to him and either gives him a nod of approval or tells him something (in Denver he told him to calm the tempo a bit during Alex, while Bruce is hitting the gong). Also at the end of the show H goes to Nicko and tells him that he played well.
