Reckon it will be Parchment as it's the more unusual of the 3 epics, also the outro of Hell on Earth isn't that conducive to a gig setting.
Agreed about Parchment; unusual. The outro of Hell On Earth could be changed so it's not a
fade out, like they did with Stranger In A Strange Land in 1999. It's also perfect for a short rocker to start right after it - Trooper, Days Of Future Past.
I will say that this is one of the less predictable setlists in terms of what new songs we’ll get. I remember in the lead up to TBOS and TFF tours it felt like we had a good idea of what was going to get played. There were clear cut picks for epics on both albums, plus singles and album openers. Now that they’ve already played the three obvious choices, it’s all up in the air. I can see pretty much anything on the album getting included.
It's true that they wanted to play the whole album live, but I think as far as the SJ songs goes, we will probably guess 4 out of 5 right. Even all 5, just because they played 3 new songs last year, the inclusion of SIT songs and Steve's press release. With TBOS, it wasn't so sure.
They're going to slow songs down, that's just where we're at with Maiden. To even announce a tour like this in the first place tells me that they're more interested in giving the fans what they want even if it means a slowed down or even possibly subpar version of the song. But this is what people have been clamoring for.
Let's wait and see this year, but that's something inevitable for every band.
I'm not feeling it. I like the Parchment, but its vibe is completely different. While TRATB sounds almost triumphant at points, TP is more somber, serious and almost gloomy. It doesn't have that celebratory feel, neither are there that many sing along melodies in there compared to TRATB.
I'll be surprised if TP makes the setlist and I'm curious to see how it'll translate to live shows.
The Red And The Black is a much more concert friendly/melodic/with vocal hooks song than Parchment, but the latter also has a fast part, lots of melodies/melodic passages and triumphant parts (''
Meet me there''). I wouldn't be surprised at all, but I agree with your points. The similarities are the long instrumental parts and that's good for Bruce. It's a specific song for live performances for sure.
I think "Parchment" has a great transition in the build up to the "meet me there" part, which would be nice to hear live. I've always envisioned this part with pyros/fireworks like in ROTAM after the breakdown. However, all the remaining parts aren't melodic and the song lacks enthusiasm overall.
Aren't melodic? The transition is indeed great. This song will need pyro, smoke and all effects live.
This tour is a celebration of 2 albums and to drop the title track and the 2 singles from Senjutsu just doesn’t make sense.
It makes sense when the tour is called
The Future Past and you saw the reaction to some of the new songs last year. To add more, Out Of The Silent Planet was also a single, but it was played live only 4 times.
