I wouldn't mind it. But I would like it to be more theatrical. Bruce in some sort of outfit, maybe pounding a drum above Nicko and a lot of pyro (beacons).
I'm ok with them not playing Senjutsu live this year as long as they play another new song. And I like the song a lot. Steve said they won't open with it again, so if they play it, I think it'll be in the middle of the set. I'd rather see another song as an opener now after we saw this one last year. I also wanted a more theatrical approach from Bruce for it (or pyro for the song), but he didn't do anything about it last year when it was the concert
opener, so. Nicko could have played the Taiko drum over him (with light effects like for IESF) and then after a short delay to start the song. He wanted to do this in front of the stage. Bruce could have done it too.
Given this year's tour theme, I don't think
pyro will fit the stage (like in 1986). A big light show is needed, the technology is available this time.
Announcing the start of the concert with the loud Taiko drum sound and drawing all attention to the stage was not such a bad idea imho.
It was a great idea.
But putting it first, puts the most strain on Nicko's right foot. He will likely simplify it as he did Stratego last year and drop the tempo masivelly. I think in any case, it won't sound amazing, as the last tour they could do it properly was 2008-2009 SBIT IMO. I just hope they don't put their head through the wall and play it come hell or high water... Just because of stubborness.
*Knowing Maiden, the last sentance will be the reason to do it, like they did with Aces Medium-Height last year just because of an inflatable plane with a saggy propeller.*
I agree about 2008-2009 tour. Aces High was the last song in the set last year because of its prop, maybe they would have dropped it from the setlist if it wasn't for that. If CSIT has a busy stage prop, it will be the opener for sure, and I think the chances of that are very good - inflatable prop (after the Spitfire I wouldn't be surprised, but I doubt it), jacket, busy light show.
...and because of that I think the song would not be as powerful as it was intended to be. Think 2022 Aces High but worse.
The only chance CSIT to sound powerful enough for their age is to be the opener. It's a more difficult and longer song than Aces High and will be demanding for Nicko and Bruce in every position of the setlist, so better do it first. We should also note that Aces High was the last song in the setlist last year.
If I had to put odds on the opener at this point it would be:
Days Of Future Past: 50% chance
Caught Somewhere In Time: 40% chance
Senjutsu: 5% chance
Some left-field song out of nowhere like Futureal: 5% chance
They will open with a SJ or SIT song for sure. Maybe because of the stage theme, they will go with a SIT one, but this is still the new album tour, so it's 50/50. I think Days Of Future Past will be a very good opener (starting from the riff) - it's a faster song with a soaring chorus and the middle empty part is perfect for Bruce's ''Scream for me!'' (maybe it was written with that in mind). Then after the outro, the next song should be an uptemo song again like Wasted Years, Sea Of Madness or a different classic like 2 Minutes, Futureal. The first 2 songs in the setlist should be from both albums. This will most likely be the first album tour since 2003 for which they won't open with 2 new songs (although they did that last year). The other tours with such stats are: 1995, 1992, 1986, 1983 and 1982.
I want them to open with a SJ song, but Caught Somewhere In Time is the best opener.
I don't think they will play Senjutsu or Stratego because with the stage and theme of the tour they don't have to keep the ''samurai'' theme anymore and they need room for more new songs. Also, Senjutsu is a specific live song, while Stratego is not an easy song for Nicko (like the SIT songs). I think they will want to have the usual number of 6/7 new songs played on an album tour, especially with SJ being so successful among the fans.
