What is your least favorite Maiden song?

So I decided to check out the song that most people on here are calling maiden's worst song, The Angel & The Gambler, including it's music video.
Had this been the first maiden song that someone told me to go check out to get an idea of what the band is about, I would've never bothered to listen to any more songs. That really was bad. Almost as bad as it's special effects were in the video. Those effects were embarrassing, even by 1998 standards.

Hopefully it's all uphill from the angel and the gambler.

Take a listen to UFO if you don't know them - huge influence on Maiden, and that song is a UFO rip. It's not for everyone, but I have found The Angel And The Never-Ending Chorus to be a grower. Took a few years but I love it now.

Least favorite: Hooks In You

The Angel and the Gambler is not a bad song, and it's the single's version that should have been used in the album instead.

There are a few of us who feel that way. I'm one, LC is another.

Never had a problem with it. The build up is very nice.

I so much prefer The Virus build up, since it builds something in the song. :p The Gambler's one sounds pointless and like i-don't-have-a-clue-how-to-turn-this-around-and-i-am-out-of-ideas-anyway.

It's not i dislike the song like it is, but the single version of TAATG sounds much more solid, in my opinion.

I used to think that, then I was driving along an empty road when the full version came on shuffle, and it was just a fantastic experience.

So I'm now diving into Piece of Mind and I get to quest for fire. I think "uh oh, the OP on this thread hates this song, here we go".

I don't mind it. It's not amazing, but far from anywhere near the bottom of the maiden cannon, even through the first four albums I've heard. Hell, I was humming the chorus earlier this evening. That must say something.

"Quest For Fire" and "Sun And Steel" both suffer from subpar lyrics. (Even saying 'subpar' is being generous.) But that's the only weakness; the music on both songs is good. QFF in particular has great riffs. Give it better lyrics/title and QFF could have been up there with something "Still Life", which itself is no worse musically than QFF.

I don't love TAATG, but I think it's overhated. I really like the little casino touches that have put on the track.

The Angel and the Gambler narrowly over Weekend Warrior, Hooks in You, The Apparition, and Chains of Misery.
These are skipped almost 100% of the time when I put on these albums, and the only Maiden songs I rate below 5/10.

The latter 4 songs I chalk up to lazy writing. They're bad, uninspired filler. Their respective albums would be in infinitely better if they had been excluded. But, TAATG is another story. It's presented as an epic. It runs longer than The Clansman! Yet, it has about 2 or 3 ideas in it, tops, and they aren't even interesting. I don't like the main riff at all or the bridge section. And that chorus...shudder.... I don't understand how Steve could listen to that monotone, drab, uninspired chorus and think it deserved to be repeated one time, let alone 22 times! I also don't find the single version much better, just mercifully shorter.

Anyway...yeah, Maiden's lengthier tracks are typically my favorites, but this one is just a daunting task to get through.
