For anyone wanting useless but otherwise interesting data, here are the number of likes received for each song post from opening night on their Instagram as of 8am EST this morning in USA on June 10th.

Listed in order by popularity

Alexander the Great - 110,421
Caught Somewhere in Time - 59,431
Can I Play With Madness - 55,918
Hell on Earth - 51,475
The Prisoner - 47,340
Wasted Years - 46,011
The Trooper - 42,821
Stranger in a Strange Land - 41,401
Fear of the Dark - 39,576
Death of the Celts - 39,552
Heaven Can Wait - 33,939
Iron Maiden - 33,907
The Writing on the Wall - 31,546
Days of Future Past - 31,425
The Time Machine - 28,630

I can't say I am surprised by the fact that Can I Play with Madness was so well liked on social media. It's a commercial hit for them even though I think it's almost the weakest song on SSOASS.

Clearly everyone was onboard to finally hear Alexander and loads were happy they opened with CSIT like myself. Not much love for their new material though except Hell on Earth! It outliked Prisoner, Stranger, Trooper and Wasted...

Seeing CIPWM so high is quite surprising, but just like you said, it makes sense. HOE has been an instant fan favorite, so that isn't surprising either. Can't say I expected SIASL to place higher than FOTD though.

Hell On Earth is not a surprise. CIPWM, to some extent - I certainly thought SIASL would be higher than it. I thought it would be higher than Prisoner and Wasted Years too.

The surprises are: Prisoner and CIPWM higher than FOTD, TWOTW and FOTD so low (maybe DOFP too), and the reaction to Celts is not as good live as the other songs below it. It did well though, higher than HCW.
If they wanted more likes they should play the Parchment. I hope someone from Maiden camp is looking at those stats.
This.

I prefer The Parchment to DOTC but I absolutely guarantee that it would've had an even worse reception by more casual fans. It's longer and much more monotonous. Yes, there are a ton of solos, but there's also a lot of lyrics (Bruce would have to memorize everything and they aren't really suited to sing-along passages), as well as a lack of moments suitable for audience participation. As much as it pains me, but DOTC is simply the safer choice and arguably the correct one, considering how deep cut heavy the setlist is. Can't challenge the audience too much.

@Vaenyr : After reading your post, I can already see Bruce saying that Maiden will do a special 1 hour and a half show playing extended versions of Empire Of The Clouds and The Parchment with an orchestra... :D

IMO it's definitely the weakest song on SSOASS, but it still gets an 8 from me.
Then again, while I'm excited that they play a previously unplayed song from my favourite album, I also think 'Alexander The Great' is the weakest song on SIT.

I hope the band doesn't let like statistics influence their setlists and decide to drop 'The Time Machine' for something else as the tour continues. It fits the tour theme perfectly and is my favourite from Senjutsu together with 'Hell On Earth'.

It could be they rehearsed Parchment but it was the old "just didn't work"

Unfortunately they will. Remember when For the Greater Good of God was dropped for 2019 due to disastrous crowd reaction and likes it got in 2018.

No wait...

Okay okay, I honestly don't expect The Time Machine to go anywhere. As you said, it fits the setlist very well thematically and unlike Celts, it even gets the crowd going at least on the Maiden™ "let's go jumping!" instrumental section to some extent, so yeah, it'll probably stay! :)

Just read this article about the gig at Sweden Rock:

It doesn't mention Adrian Smith at all but they have a full picture of Janick with the text stating: "Janick Gers was responsible for many brilliant guitar solos during Friday's gig at Sweden Rock." I wonder if Aftonbladet actually saw the gig?

I think you're right, and Celts is probably more dynamic, but Parchment is really popular among fans. The fast part at the end will work great live imo or the singalong melodies. It's a safer choice, yes.

It's possible. I think Steve just said they were going to play Celts (like he did with FTGGOG in 2018). And Clansman is a live favorite.

Not that I disagree, especially about Time Machine (about Celts, I'm not sure), but TOAC was a good example.

I was hoping they'd have played Man of Sorrows instead of Tears of a Clown but the timing of that album and Robin Williams suicide is likely why they went that route.

Yes, I think so too. Hopefully, I'll see them this month or in July at the latest anyway, so I should be safe in any case. I'm beyond excited to finally witness a decent amount of songs from Somewhere In Time, my favourite Maiden album, coupled with great tracks from Senjutsu (I've even warmed to 'Death Of The Celts') and deep cuts like 'The Prisoner'.

Imo, Manowar was GREAT band. But after a series of wrong decisions by Joey, they declined very much. My message was, that Adams could be much more famous and recognised. I like all classic Manowar albums. I even included them in the list of my favorite bands. So there's no need to be rude. I am not fanboy. When I see that a band/performer could do better, I speak. Even if it's Maiden.
(Of course it's only my opinion)

“Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one but they think each others stink.”

As much as I enjoy Manowar for being the silliest power metal band ever and who wrote some great songs, let's not forget the elephant in the room which was their disgusting pedo bass player who is thankfully languishing in prison.

I'm not 100% convinced that the band, who toured with the guy for decades didn't at least have suspicions that he was a nonce.

He played guitar, not bass.

I just thought filming and recording the current tour would be a great occasion to go on with their "History of Iron Maiden" series. If I'm not mistaken, after the LAD release some ten years ago this thing stopped. Maybe due to lacking of material. They might have some 1986/87 stuff, but it might have been not enough for a proper release continuing the series. They could fill it up with stuff from the current tour.
