I don't really know why but Geddy was an instant click for me despite its uniqueness. LaBrie and Mustaine however, never tolerated it.
Regarding Geddy, same for me. I think it's because despite the uniqueness and high register, Geddy has an amazing pitch control and range. Mustaine doesn't really have that, though I don't mind his voice.

LaBrie's voice made DT my second favorite band.

I love Geddy and Mustaine too apart from their earliest albums. A bit too screechy and amateurish at first, but fortunately they soon figured it out.

I like Geddy Lee's voice, do not mind James LaBrie's (never been a fan of Dream Theater though; tremendous musicians, but I have not been able to connect with their music), and find Dave Mustaine's voice insufferable.

Speaking about wasted potential I present the opposite case, a fantastic singer caught in a band that doesn't do him justice:

Eric Adams from Manowar. If you ignore their lyrics there are certainly songs that are great as far as the music is concerned. Eric is insanely talented and has delivered some of my absolute favorite performances in metal, but Manowar is just sooo goofy. It is what it is I guess, but just imagine him in a project with subject matter closer to what Maiden is doing for example.

Agree that their lyrics suck, however manowar are an amazing band, and Eric Adams even more so. Saw them live in January this year, and i have never witnessed a singer with such range live

Louis Marullo is a great singer. Shame about the lyrics he sings.

I honestly thing Book of Souls Live Chapter and Nights of the Dead are not nearly as bad production-wise as they're made out to be. That said, this tour absolutely demands to have a proper Shirley produced live album AND video.
The drums on NOTD sound fantastic. What ruins those live albums for me are three things: a) the keyboards being obnoxiously loud, b) some insanely weird mixing decisions like the weird audience automation that happens in the beginning of Wrathchild in BOSLC, c) the audience being utterly unintelligible at most points. There are moments like Aces High or Fear Of The Dark where the audience sings by itself, but not only can't you make out any word, you can hardly make out the melody they are supposed to be singing. It's insane to me that live albums that released decades earlier managed to capture the audience perfectly, while here it sounds like they recorded a shotgun being fired in a cathedral or something. Seriously, the "hey"'s during Revelations might be the worst offender.
