I don't know if this is a hint, but Pooch was listening to ''The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner'' in preparation for the tour! Source - here.

Maybe this will be ''Steve's song'' for the setlist, just like Greater Good. He wants to play it again.
I really can’t see Bruce singing this song in his 60’s. He’s a phenomenal singer, but I think this song is a step too far.

For sure. The title track and Long Distance Runner are the most difficult songs for him, especially the latter (after that are Deja-Vu and Alexander). We'll have to wait and see. SIT as a whole is a brutal album for Bruce and Nicko. The fast tempo is everything for these songs.

Long Distance Runner is a specific live song because of its chorus, also the tempo is like a power metal song. I would like to have a clear live/video version of the song, we don't have from 1986 and the song is great.

I've got a feeling that the only SIT songs we're gonna get are Heaven Can Wait, Stranger in a Strange Land, Alexander the Great, and of course Wasted years. All of those songs are tempo-wise and vocal-range-wise on par with what they've been playing on their last few tours. I want to be surprised with Loneliness or Caught SIT, but even more than that, I want to be surprised by the performances.

Whenever I feel bad lately, I put on Alexander the Great and daydream about the ass-kicking that's gonna go down next month in Ljubljana.

When the lights go off and the howling wind starts playing and I hear:

"My son ask for thyself another kingdom
For that which I leave is too small for thee"

What about the 5th song? I wouldn't be surprised with these 4 though. But I think they'll want to have another surprise (not just Stranger and Alexander). Heaven Can Wait is faster than Sea Of Madness?

I agree.

With all this speculation about the future past set list it got me thinking that to be honest, at this stage of their career and after having seen the band live on every tour since 1995 I actually don’t care about the set lists anymore.

Don’t get me wrong it’ll be cool to hear Alexander the Great if indeed it is played as it’ll be a cool moment as it hasn’t been played before. Outside this I couldn’t care what other songs are played as long as they sound great and Bruce sings them well.

I don’t want to see them play a bunch of songs that Bruce or Nicko will struggle with and end up sounding shit. Just fill a set up with whatever songs they can confidentially perform well over the whole tour and I’ll be happy.

Hear, hear!

If they have to include overplayed songs that Nicko and Bruce can still do well instead of very challenging deep cuts they cannot longer play as they were recorded, so be it.

AC/DC and Ozzy are not active touring acts. They're literally being pulled out of semi-retirement for a single high-paying gig. They can rent all of their gear locally, throw up a banner, incorporate some pyro, and call it a day.

You are correct, but they are not the same.
Maiden basically are turning up with a custom built stage and just have to bring over a few props which lets be real none of it is that elaborate its a simple box design that takes up limited space, all fits in one simple sized plane to fly across the pond. Being paid huge amounts of money to do it is a no brainer it will still turn over a massive profit,
They dont have to do any extra US shows and most likely wont, there 2024 tour is pretty much already set in stone and booked NA and South America will be well covered

I care, but I understand your point of view.
If they get to a point where they can't play chunks of the discography surely that's an indicator to call it a day rather than limp on playing the easier ones.
We can say the same about every old band still active, don't you think? They will can, but not so fast. Bruce is a wizard. It's helpful that Maiden have so many great deep cuts (and songs overall) and they can choose what suits them best at the moment, which is easier. For every old band it's enough to play the classics right. The more challenging songs will always be difficult live, no matter if it's the 80's or the 10's. Like Aces High, and they played it as the last song in 2022! Nicko is the ''engine'' of the band. Bruce is still going strong.

I agree. Unfortunately, this is inevitable for every performer.

Absolutely. That’s why Aces High was played at such energetic tempo last year, so the people’s most vivid imagination could go crazy. :p

The idea that Maiden are having a discussion about what songs to play and are considering dropping songs and only playing standards, is all in peoples vivid imaginations, as is the idea that standards are less difficult to play than deep cuts. Some standards are difficult and some are easy, the same as with deep cuts.

Also, when people are taking a pop at Bruce and Nicko they ignore the elephant in the room, that songs are at a slower tempo now because one member is always complaining about songs being too fast and as a result the band are counted in from a metronome at the studio album tempos.

There’s nothing wrong with Maiden playing their own songs at the tempo they were originally recorded (far from it if you ask me), but if you think that Aces High was played at the studio tempo last year you need your hearing checked! ;)

For what is worth, I do not think Maiden are even considering this. They will probably keep playing live as long as the money keeps rolling regardless of them being faithful (or not) to the original tempo of the studio versions of their songs.
