I am not ready to start this at all to be honest. I hope Mckindogs game takes very long still, or else we'll move it forward.

@mckindog about your question on Satriani instrumentals. Some people have already suggested some, but if you think your favourite is missing or more than one, go ahead. But try to be a bit picky (and don't forget about The Extremist. :D )

By the way, I am trying to do this game in many rounds, presenting one or just a few battles at the time, I guess the way @mckindog is doing his now (is that what you also suggested?).

If it seems that I end up with too many songs, I'll contact people who have brought in the most suggestions and we'll trim their choices down.

@Night Prowler and @Mosh this could become a very long game because I don't want to rush it, I want people to check out all the instrumentals, and also give them the opportunity to do that during the game (I'll take the links into the game).

It could take long. If you don't mind that's fine. If you think it would delay other games too much, you can always start another game earlier.

If you decide to use the World Cup format, you might want to post a new battle every day or two, but keep the voting up for a few days to give people some time to digest the music if they choose
If you post a battle, allow four or five days for voting, then post the next battle when it's over, the game will literally take more than a year to complete.
I've found with the World Cup, the vast majority of voting is done the same day the round is posted, but in that game it's much more likely people will be voting instantly.
 
I suspect voting numbers will drop off sharply, as there is such a massive list of songs here that I doubt many (if any) will listen to them all and simply vote for their own choices. Once all songs that someone knows are out they probably won't continue with the game.

I would suggest restricting it to a few entries/suggestions per band and/or forum member, but then you miss out on potentially very good songs. With a smaller track list I'd imagine more will get listened to, but every day more are being added.
 
Crimson is on the money, here. I honestly don't know if I'll be voting in this at all. Other than instrumentals by the few bands that have already been covered in other survivors (Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, Dream Theater), I will be unaware of most of these songs. I just don't have the time to listen to them all before voting, either (unless each round is a head to head - which will take forever). Restricting bands/member suggestions to a certain number would make it much easier for everyone to listen to everything.

The plan is that people can still listen to the songs during the voting rounds. I will provide links in the voting rounds.

I can understand that some people don't have the time to listen to songs before it starts, but would find it disappointing if they also may not do that while the game is going on, because "it takes forever". I can't predict how long it takes but I don't see the problem in listening to new music for a few months. We need the time to make this happen. Some survivors in the past have also taken very long. Survivors continue forever on this board anyway. Is this forum closing down soon?

Now to the restrictions. I take this point seriously.
My initial idea was to have a maximum amount of songs per person, but was later convinced to not do that.
Now I am seriously thinking about going back to my original plan and will probably ask everyone to bring in a maximum of songs. Some people will probably need to review their input and kill some darlings. Will give this a thought and will come back to it within a week.
