Let me tell you that you are assuming what I am not as well. It is just i can't imagine my dear friends Ilse,Horst and Otto vandalizing an hospital in their own city. Just that. They care people a lot. They help people.Everyone. Racist world view?. Hipocrisy.

For everyone thinking why I'm little bit scared. In hospital where is just one patient with coronavirus medical stuff is running out of equipment. In what, 24h? The don't have hazmat suits, masks etc.

How do I know that? Situation is so bad that they went to TV stations.

And this is one of the best equipped hospitals in Poland.
 
The second coronavirus-related death in the UK has been confirmed. It was an 80-year old with underlying health conditions, so the kind of death we would expect from regular flu anyway.

And still no hand sanitizers in shops.

It is currently impossible to buy hand gel in Woolston or online, haven't checked town yet but I don't really think it's worth bothering. Morons seem to be preparing to withstand a siege or be snowed in for six months. The boyfriend thinks it will be back to normal shopping-wise in a couple of weeks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't normal flu a type of coronavirus?

I hope so. As I've said already, I am pissed off with the animals who have stocked up on this stuff. One person having 20 bottles doesn't stop the virus spreading, it just means one person will have very clean and dry hands for six months. Even regular hand soap is running low in Boots. :facepalm:

I submitted a complaint to Boots via their online form because I think they - and other stores - share responsibility for this mess. Once the advice from PHE & NHS started to go out the management should have known people would overreact and go wild.

I think you're correct. I believe I heard something about this on the radio. This one seems to be more virulent than regular flu though.

Amazon have been removing offending items thankfully. Retail watchdogs have also warned stores not to jack up prices. I think there's a bottle of hand gel on eBay for £40 which is appalling and hilarious at the same time.

Of course, this price jacking means that The System Has Failed.
The virus isn't that severe, though; it's not likely to be a Countdown to Extinction, and the casualties won't number in the Megadeths.

The problem with Coronavirus is that:
A) you can infect long before symptoms
B) it's 20-30 times more deadly than normal flu and according to some sources changes in lungs are irreparable

Worst is A) because that means that every diagnosed case may indicate even 20 cases that are still hidden. This is an amazing mechanism for the attack - before someone knows that he's infected the ones that he infected are infecting the others.

Basically, A is a very effective society blocking mechanism.

Current state of research, which as any self-respecting scientist will tell you has not provided end results yet, is that the mortality rate is estimated to be around 0.7%. That is indeed higher than a typical seasonal flu, which is ca. 0.1%, but hardly 20-30 times higher. No clue where you have that number from, but I'd recommend using different sources. Even so, the absolute numbers don't sound as apocalyptic. This way of talking about it is exactly how panic and hysteria spread.
 
Also, for the fun of it, I looked at the thread we had for the Swine Flu panic in 2009.

There were between 0.7 and 1.4 billion infected with 14,286 confirmed deaths. This makes for a fatality rate of ca. 0.3%. The Swine Flu was the least lethal flu pandemic in recorded history. A friend of mine contracted Swine Flu while pregnant and delivered a perfectly healthy baby a few months later.

Yes, Coronavirus is more serious than this, and there are already 3,400 confirmed deaths (vs 57,000 confirmed recoveries), but for fuck's sake. Don't spread the panic. Wash your hands, don't touch your eyes and mouth, and tell other people.
