Coronavirus

But would you love to be forced to be isolated for 14 days (or, indeed, at all)? You might find it a different experience if the choice wasn't yours ...
Very true. In any case the isolation wouldn't work right now because I'd miss my final exams and not graduate. That would suck.

I'd be fine with the isolation in itself, but not two weeks of isolation with associated symptom watch

I've gone several months without leaving the house on multiple occasions. In fact, I've only been out three times in the last month. I've also gone more than a year without talking to anyone but my parents before.

First two cases confirmed in Bulgaria. The country will be out of toilet paper in the next 24 hours.

Coronavirus has been reported in Bulgaria, Greece, Iran, Iraq, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine. Somehow no reported cases in Turkey. Having difficulty buying it.

Now that's crazy.

Italy : The head of intensive care in Lombardy sounds the alarm. The hospital system is on the brink, "on the verge of collapse". It predicts 18,000 cases in Lombardy on 03/26.

Ya, I know it's a lot to read, but it is good to say updated since this is getting a bit scary. And if my super lazy mind can read all of this, I think yours can as well.

I'm an extrovert. Being placed in 14 days isolation is a frightening thought for me. Absolutely frightening.
I know - who would you randomly talk to? Perhaps the Ontario government should quarantine all the ex-pat Nova Scotians in the same facility so you can gossip about "Do you know the guy that owns that store off intersection 14 on the highway? He sold up and moved in with a younger woman from Newfoundland eh."
  • A 100-year-old man has recovered from the coronavirus
What a hero.

Ah yes, Accuweather, the well known health site.

I'm mostly frightened by the American lack of response on Coronavirus. Bordering them is frightening. Health Canada is doing an excellent job with testing and quarantining people.

Old Persian, Middle Persian, Bactrian, Sogdian, Parthian, Old and Young Avestan (in theory), Latin and will hopefully be certified in Greek on Thursday. Maybe Sanskrit and Vedic will follow somewhere down the line, but for now I'm happy that I can make some sense of a short Prakrit inscription.
Flipping 'eck!
And here I am, only knowing English, Hindi and schoolboy French.

Mhm. Germany has 684 confirmed cases and not one fatality. Please excuse me if I'm not throwing myself out of the window in the face of this statistical ambiguity.
Most of the cases in German are in 20-50 age group where lethality is very close to the seasonal flu. Also citizens obey government more - if someone will tell them to stay home and wash hands they will do it.

On the other hand we have Italy, where most cases are in 50+ group and medical services are starting to crumble.

Basically if you're under 35 lethality is around 0.4%, if you are 60 it's 5-7% and from 80+ it's around 13%.

And in Poland? Today one patient who was waiting for tests run away from hospital to gas station to buy vodka and she was under 'quarantine'.
