Coronavirus

Please do not tell me you are surprised about such an (alleged) behaviour by Trump, the guy who tried to get exclusive rights for a vaccine.

Thinking this was not going to happen would have been as naïve as expecting a united response from the EU showing widespread solidarity with their countries that have been affected the most.

I don't know. I didn't think the US under Trump had changed so drastically in such a short time that it would treat its allies in such a shabby manner. Even at the low point of German-American relations under Bush there was no doubt we'd have each other's back in time of humanitarian crisis.

Someone as dumb as Bush was a statesman compared to the narcissist clown they have in the White House now.

On a related note, why would Trump treat the Fatherland like that? Has he forgotten he is German by blood?

The sun goes down on our civilization?
If you can call Southampton Docks civilisation

If I'd pointed the camera the other way you would have seen Fawley Refinery instead. Even so, Weston Shore is still a nice place to have on your doorstep. Just don't hang around there at the moment, or the Plods will send you home (possibly with a fine if you argue). Fortunately, they didn't notice me stopping to take that picture ;)

Refineries make AVGAS, thus I like them.
I didn't say I disliked it, just implied that the average person probably wouldn't consider it too picturesque. But I can find beauty in it: on a bright sunny day I can imagine it's a romantic castle with lots of whitewashed round towers. And at night the flarestacks can look very dramatic (probably not too environmentally friendly though).

I see flarestacks as business opportunities :D better process control and they wouldn't have to burn stuff they could sell.

I see flares as a safety measure, and any flared gas is stuff that could've been put to use before becoming CO2.

I have very fond memories of the time I spent in Southampton (lived in Portswood and Shirley).

With record-setting speed, vaccinemakers take their first shots at the new coronavirus

Researchers at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine working on a prototype vaccine delivered via a fingertip-sized patch in mice have shown it can induce an immune response against SARS-COV-2 at levels that might prevent infection.

The Independent: Coronavirus: Potential vaccine generates enough antibodies to fight off virus, first peer-reviewed study suggests
