Coronavirus

Went out for ONE thing today... eggs. That's it. Eggs. I always buy 3 cartons, each carton has 30 eggs. The reason I do this is because when I lived alone it would last me about 45 days, along with most of my basic groceries. Since my GF moved in with me it lasts about 25-30 days. Still a good amount. On the way to the store she remembers two more things we need, which quickly became 10.

So we run to Wal-Mart instead of the neighborhood shop. The parking lot is FULL, it is a strip mall, so there are other businesses there, ALL OF THEM OPEN. I'm talking about furniture stores, bars and restaurants. W...T...F. The grocery store is crowded and it was a challenge to stay away from people. We buy everything EXCEPT the eggs as the shop sells it in 30 egg cartons and Wal-Mart does not.

We get to the shop and it has a line outside like if it was a disco or something. They only let like 10 people in at a time. When I get in I go to the eggs and there is ONE lady in front of me, asking the worker behind the counter (they have like butcher/dairy/cold meats in one) for a list of things. 5 minutes later it's my turn. I ask for my usual supply of eggs and she says, "I can only sell you one kilo." To which I say, "That only lasts like 5 days... then I'd have to come back." "At that point I can sell you another one." "Truuuue, but the whole point of this is to NOT leave the house!" So I buy nothing. Complete waste of time. Lucklily, my GF suggested the butcher shop and what do you know, they had eggs. I asked how many I could purchase and they said however many I wanted. I asked for my usual of 90 and that's when they drop it on me.... 270 Mexican pesos! Last time I bought them it was 133. The price of EGGS has more than doubled. Fruits and vegetables has been flectuating a bit to, but they have also about doubled in the last 2 months. God damn!

In Poland we have almost 3000 infected and yesterday over 390 new infections. We have also new rules:
- at least 2m distance on the streets
- children under 18 can't leave home without adult
- only one person can leave house at given time
- in shops there is customer limit set to only 3 x number of cashiers
- seniors have special hours to do groceries
- police is doing controls on the roads
- in city communication number of passengers allowed is now set to half of the seats available in bus or train

In my city people are listening quite well (photo from my window). In my company they are telling that they wish it will be over in three weeks but they are prepared to work remotely whole summer because we work internationally and many markets are totally closed.

We have a similar rule, I'm not sure how many is allowed (definitely more than 3 per cashier) but there is a queue outside the shop (with social distancing) and people are only let in when other people leave the shop.

I wonder is this counter productive though? You end up quite close to the same people behind you and in front of you in the queue for a long time. Whereas if you let people into the shop quicker they could practice better social distancing, once there's not too many in the shop.

Going to fly to Berlin on Wednesday and enter a 14-day quarantine. I'm doing it now because it's currently planned that all the facilities I use there will be gradually re-opened from the 20th, so I will still do the quarantine while there's nowhere for me to go anyway.

I’ve been feeling weirdly weak for some time now. Last night, I went to bed at 3, woke up at 3 pm today and I’m still bloody tired. I don’t know if it’s the lack of physical exercise getting to me or I really have this virus. I don’t have a fever, but I feel pretty crappy all the time. I’ve had a cough for quite a while, it’s not super prevalent anymore but still lingers around. Chances are I just need to get exercise to start feeling better.

The ministry of education has extended the suspension of k-12 clases until the 30th, waiting on word from the university if we'll do the same. This is our last week of "work," next two weeks off for holy week and easter. We're supposed to go back to normal on the 20th, but word is we'll follow suit with the ministry's recommendation or even longer.

This schools here have essentially said the year is cancelled and many seem to be doing pass/fail for this semester

I can confirm this story from several reputable German newspapers.

Christ, I can't even imagine work that US ambassadors and PR companies will have to do to spin this in any way different than 'us was trying to duck the rest of the world' after this shitstorm.

Anyone else find it ironic that the Govt are continually reminding us that "we're in this together" when the whole point of the "social distancing" thing is not being in it together?

:)Nothing will stop them repeating a slogan as nausea

We are led by donkeys. From the makers of “Take back control” and “Get Brexit done” we now get “Protect the NHS (and forget how much we have decimated the welfare state during the last decade; please, we are in it together)”.

Next year it will probably be something different instead of the real message: “the future of your kids is ruined (ours will still get to go to Eton)”.

Not to mention the idea of the immunity passport: presumed guilty unless proven otherwise. A dystopian society in the making...

Please do not tell me you are surprised about such an (alleged) behaviour by Trump, the guy who tried to get exclusive rights for a vaccine.

Thinking this was not going to happen would have been as naïve as expecting a united response from the EU showing widespread solidarity with their countries that have been affected the most.
