Coronavirus

Today saw the first instance where Coronavirus cheated me out of work. The employer temporarily suspended the project due to coronavirus measures. Hope it's continued in the future.

If that were the tortilla's potato based Norwegian cousin, it would make a great rhyme in Norwegian ... as that is called lompe and rhymes with rompe (which you might guess is the Norwegian word for butt).

Another funny thing about that is that the most common use of lompe in Norway is for wrapping a hot dog ...

Hope I am forgiven for bringing in a silly digression in a serious thread. Without a little silliness we'd all enter a collective depression, I'm afraid.

I think keeping a sense of humor is important ... it is for me at least

Yesterday, a week after panic shopping in Slovenia, the number of new cases went from 11 to 33. Today it's 22.

This is why panic is not a solution.

Well, first reported death here in Mexico. Still low on cases and all non-essential services a long with restaurants and bars as well as limited public transit to go into effect Saturday.

Also, first round of virtual classes and meetings. Gotta say, I kinda like it. I made some videos for my students, put them up on youtube (no, not sharing, they suck) and been using Facebook and Zoom to follow up. Tomorrow is the heavy duty day. 5 hour class. Should be fun.

125 cases in Bulgaria, 3 deaths.
As of tomorrow, they are banning going to public parks and gardens and we're not allowed to leave the city. Not that we're out all the time, but not being able to go to the park for 10-15 minutes is brutal.

Wohooo ... tax payments not due until July 15 now ... that should be the deal every year .. file by April 15 .. with some additional time to pay

And in Poland salaries will be lower by 20-60% in companies that are having problems and almost no government help for these companies.

I lost one contract thanks to this epidemic but thankfully a bigger company offered me better position yesterday so maybe it will be ok.

647 deaths in Italy in one day. My God. it's devastating!
This is gruesome. Essentially, if you aren't in perfect health when you get infected you run a high risk of dying. It's horrible. To think a few months ago the current state of the world would seem like that out of a hollywood movie.

My job sent everyone home but is still paying people (student job funded by the college). Still need a new job cause the student work isn’t enough for where I’m at now. Grocery stores here are hiring like crazy. I didn’t even interview, just walked in and she gave me the background check and told me to start on Monday.
