Coronavirus

CL and EL announcments of suspension are expected any moment.

Real Madrid basketball and football teams are in quarantine, since one of them tested positive.

The US move to ban travel from Europe is not logical when it doesn't include the UK. There are several countries in the Schengen area with less spread of the virus than the UK has. Why make exemptions once you make such a drastic move?

Also, ironic that just a week or so ago, the president who now brags about taking action was dismissing the entire thing as a media hype. So he personally gets very little credit from me on this one.
It's mega political, of course. Britain 'isn't part of Europe'. And we currently have a very lacklustre response to coronavirus. They're just bumbling along assuming the deaths are only something that happens to backward foreigners, poor people and pensioners who were already on death's door. I'm hearing bad reports about the ability of the NHS hotline and access to testing

I would have expected a stronger response from the UK government seeing as the population at risk are much more likely to vote Tory than anything else!

NBA, Serie A and La Liga have suspended play. I expect other sport leagues to follow suit eventually.

Wonder if Euro 2020 or the Olympics are threatened. They probably are.

The NHL is playing their games without fans for now. They had already restricted locker room access to players and staff only, no media. Now only teams and broadcasters are allowed. Just a matter of time before a player tests positive and they'll suspend as well.

As for the Olympics, I haven't seen any update on the likelyhood of postponing them until the end of the year.

Honestly I would've banned all travel to and from the country for as long as it takes, period. No exceptions. I think this is the first time in awhile I've actually liked something the guy's done. Good on him.
Travel bans don't work. They encourage other countries to misreport their cases (Iran) in hopes of avoiding them. In addition, the US banned travel from China but they still got the disease from China.

Considering the ban doesn't include trade/economic reasons or returning citizens, it's absolutely nothing but a placebo. Don't be fooled, look behind the curtain.

The US is woefully unprepared for this and it is entirely due to Donald Trump.

Also, all events with more than 500 people are banned until at least the end of May. The Judas Priest tour opening gig is on the May 30th.

Does the number include the band members and the crew? If it doesn't it shouldn't be a problem if they fail to sell more than 500 tickets.

It is what it is, you know?
I knew you were going to make that joke, but unfortunately Priest is still quite popular here. They should sell something between 4000-7000 tics.

Then they would probably have to postpone the gig to 1st June or do a Van Morrison, who played 2 gigs in Paris this week instead of one to make sure that the number of people did not exceed the limit imposed by the French government.

State of emergency declared in the Czech Republic. All gyms and sport centers are to be closed for 30 days, starting tomorrow. If that’s really going to happen, I will literally have nothing left to do here. Going back to Estonia is looking more likely every day.

In Turkey: Schools and universities going into hiatus for three weeks, Süper Lig games will be played without fans until further notice. Guess it'll take a player contracting the disease to suspend play.

Do have the option of doing online shopping and having it delivered?

no slots available until next Weds!

Also, just been told we'll actually be working behind closed doors despite the government closing the college. Hopefully the union steps in and tells them to get fucked.

I did that the other day and still didn't get the soap refills I wanted. At least I got the toilet roll I ordered though. :)

The UK has now moved into the next phase of the battle against the virus. We're now being asked to stay at home for seven days if we have a persistent cough or temperature. I'm not sure what else happens in this phase but apparently they're only considering having football matches behind closed doors.

I am fully expecting my university to imminently make us work from home. I'd rather that didn't happen because I struggle to be productive at home. Hopefully the powers at be will hold their nerve and wait until the end of the month so that students can get the term finished.

In other news the Australian Grand Prix is certain to be called off and the US is struggling big time.

Shops update (went and bought 1l of soap...)

In my local shop in Ljubljana, only the pasta and bread have taken a hit. However, there are still some.

But my brother said that his local shop on the other side of Ljubljana has been striken.
