And yeah, it's difficult to get a clear picture now of deaths caused by covid and how preventable they could have been with a few smaller precautions like mask wearing or better ventilation in public places. Very little prominent Government publicity about preventing the spread of covid, either, if anything they're pushing the 'we'll just have to man up and accept it' line more.
Around 200 deaths a day are being recorded in the UK involving people who have tested positive for covid in the last 28 days. Of course that includes people who probably didn't die of covid, but also excludes those who tested positive more than 28 days before but did die due to covid or a complication of covid.
This isn't on a par with flu, especially not at this time of year. I do accept that Covid BA4/5 exist, and are more contagious based on South African and one European study. It's just fortunate (possibly) that at this moment in time it looks like they're not any more lethal. It will cause more illness, more pressure on medical services, and more staff sickness across all types of employment, though.
