Possibly. In a lot of those cases, they may have been contracted before the control measures were strongly in place.

Although it does seem likely that they have failed.

I think the problem is out of control. They don't take the control measures at time.
Intensive Care Units are saturated in the main focus cities.
The hysteria in the supermarkets started yesterday
Madrid the main focus city is thinking in the total isolation.
My parents are in the group of risk and I'm f***ing scared.

The results of the control measures will only show the effect in 10 days or so, as some people might have contracted it before the control measures started...

Also, I expect a peak in new cases in the next 3-4 days, since that's when people started taking this seriously. After that, we'll see.

Even if there is a full outbreak, control measures will slow the progress of the disease, which is important for ensuring that the health care system has the most possible time to handle the individual cases.

Exactly. If the brakes are kept on, the pandemic may be dragged out in time. And if the same number of people end up getting sick, but spread out over a longer period in time, the peak will be lower and a total saturation of the health care system may be avoided.

One thing that probably helps around here is most schools are starting spring break and the districts are taking the opportunity to scrub down all the schools

So I guess you're not doing Italy now, that they closed the country?

Not making any decisions yet, there is plenty of time to decide. We do not fly there until July 15th, will see how things look in June

Edit: Even if Maiden cancels the show, if things are calmed down, we will go anyway to see Italy. If Italy is in bad shape, but other places are better, we will find another show in that same general time frame and go there.

In the US, a test for this virus costs $3200 or $1000 with insurance. o_O It's a global (verging on) pandemic and people have to pay to be tested. Incredible.

Over here, we're now at 456 cases after 83 more were confirmed by the Department of Health. That's the biggest increase in a single day.

It's not really news that the US healthcare system is out of touch with real life conditions. To me, it's a direct result of the American way of undermining the interdependence of the individual and the community.

A side note, crisis situations requiring swift responses and wide organization like this constitute one of the best arguments as to why a regulatory government is better in a complex society than not having a government or having a small one.

In Poland we have assault on supermarkets. I spent 45minutes in line. No veggies and rice and this is just 4h after closing all schools, cinemas, theatres and museum's.20200311_150750.jpg20200311_150733.jpg

By "assault" I initially thought you meant violence, like the women in Australia, but then saw Meligree's post. Did you manage to get toilet paper, Flash?

We are up to 8 cases, the latest a German tourist who had been in Italy. Of the 8, 3 have been cleared to go home. All 8 case are of tourists or nationals that recently visited Italy. Our health ministry and dark sense of humor are doing a great job of making sure there is no massive panic.
