Who will carry the torch?

I disagree about Muse. I think they are the most unique mainstream act in a long time.

I'm not sure what the Forth Bridge has to do with Blind Guardian though!
Well its famed as the impossible and its been achieved so maybe some time soon we'll be stood screaming VALHALLA DELIVERANCE
The prospect of never seeing them live is just too painful and so blind hope is all there is  :S

But yeh im with you... DOWN WITH THE EURO   lets stop all trading with europe to get them here.
For me theyre the only other band i can see giving the live adrenaline that you get from a maiden show... a year seeing both of them could be enough to kill me off

Just imagine them supporting Iron Maiden. Could you handle that?

Firstly, iron maiden with a decent support band
Secondly, it being BG  that would be a think of beauty... i dont think my legs would hack it though and theyd need to start early so guardian could get a full set in

Dickinson solo stuff is allright, but it's not as if the guy is capable of breaking new grounds, as Maiden did in the early 80s ad constantly did ever since. The guy is not innovative enough. And nowadays, he seems more interested in flying planes than writing songs. As for Smith, I don't think he could do anything great outside Maiden. I really think that Dream Theater, if they were a little less self-indulgent, could carry the torch. But I thought the same thing of Queenryche some 20 years back, and we all know what happened. I really think great bands need great leaders making the right decisions : Ian Anderson, Toni Iommi, Steve Harris, and so on... So to me the question is : who is the man of the future ?

So Maiden made innovate albums without Dickinson. He had absolutely nothing to do with breaking any ground, neither in Maiden, neither solo. Alright.

Maybe, as a non english speaking guy I can't catch all the subtilities of your phrase, but, yes, Maiden made very innovative albums without Bruce : the first to are innovative and ground-breaking, and I remember when hearing Killers for the time, I thought it was so different. All Maiden is already here. And the X Factor is really innovative to. Bruce has obviously given his contribution, but he is clearly not the musical driving force behind all this : just listen to the musically poor Revelations, adn compare it to the masterly written To Tame a Land. The result is cruel for Bruce. And yes, I like him, he has a fantastic voice, and his personnality has helped a lot. But thinking he could "take the torch" after Maiden quits, no way.

I find it interesting that you'd describe Revelations as "musically poor". It's many peoples favourite Maiden song and my favourite on Piece of Mind. Just saying...

I don't think he would take the torch. His solo albums are very different than Maiden, I don't know why I should expect him to continue on making maiden like records because he won't.

The bad Revelations is the Judas Priest one.

Maiden's is fantastic, wonderful, even if the verse intro is just Cross-Eyed Mary verse in A (they even covered it during the album's sessions to make it clear it was a tribute, not a rip off). :P

Really ? First time I read someone thinking that. I didn't want to offend anybody, but, to me, this song is just some kind of a parodic epic. And the lyrics !!! Who does he think he is to write such a prententious piece of s... Steve has written embarassing lyrics in his career, but not of that kind. Anyway, for me, Revelations and Sun and Steel are the only weak songs in Piece of Mind.

Revelations is some of Bruce's finest lyrics, and it is a top ten song. I love it.

I confess I do not find Revelations that great either (explanation here), it's the most overrated song in the catalogue, so you can expect that we both have an unpopular opinion. :)

On the other hand, when Dickinson arrived, Harris could write different songs with him in mind. Rime of the Ancient Mariner certainly was something new. Dickinson was an integral part of that success. Bruce was the deliverer.

Oh, and Revelations by Judas Priest, that song is one of the best from Nostradamus.

There is absolutely nothing embarrassing about Revelations.  Nothing.  Period.  Revelations is an outstanding metal epic.  The lyrics are outstanding, and the author is indeed a metal god.  Please stop this insanity.

If it's embarrassing lyrics on Piece of Mind you wanna discuss how about Harris thinking dinosaurs and men co-existed in Quest For Fire. Nothing and I mean nothing Bruce has ever written is as hilarious as that.
