Who will carry the torch?

You guys sound like a bunch of Beatles fans crying after the Beatles broke up.

I mean, I'm sorry to be mean about it, but there you have it. All that being said, the simple fact of the matter is that Maiden probably can't be replaced. I'll miss them, yes, I will. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be sad when they're gone. Or stop listening to metal, or music.

Maiden changed the metal world in ways we can't appreciate for another 15, 20 years. We have to love what we've been given. We may never move on, no. But we can always look for what they did in who comes next.

Nicely put, Maiden is a one of a kind band.  I am sure there will be some new bands that come around (and some existing ones) that will at least partially fill the void and fill the need for good new music, but I cannot see anyone reaching Maiden's level of greatness (at least for me).

No one is going to be able to sound like Maiden, nor should anyone.  We do not need some band that is to Maiden what Kingdom Come was to Zepplin.  Maiden fused elements of many previous bands (Purple, Jethro Tull, etc with some punk/metal elements for the most part) and came up with the Maiden sound.  There are bands that can do the same with Maiden (incorporate them with other unfluences) to create a new unique sound that hopefully will be good  .... there are already bands like like, there are just none IMO that meet the quality of Maiden.

Please don't try to bring in speed metal bands to THIS conversation.  Speed metal was designed take to a perfect entity {metal} and somehow make it more appealing to it's own fan base.  20 + wasted years and ten million headaches later, speed metal still sucks.  And another thing, I don't think anyone is crying here.  All involved so far have a positive outlook on what we got, and for the time being are still getting, from the greatest band of all time.  Their hasn't been much gloom on these boards.  The bottom line is, no way any band out there now is close to this band.  And it isn't even close.  IMO. That's why the strong seance of loyalty. Oh and Bearsfan, one more thing...TEBOW!!! LOL!!

There was one day when I had the very sobering realization that in my lifetime (barring an accident or something) there will come a day when I wake up and all the members of all these iconic bands will be dead. But that's life.
Maiden have produced some awesome music and I had rather they end while going strong instead of just beating a dead horse. That being said, there will always be future bands that will be awesome, in different ways. And for that matter, Maiden's music will live on. Did the world end when Bach or Beethoven died? No.
As for bearing the torch, when it comes to making good music, there will always be new creative minds making great music. Will they or should they even sound like Maiden? I don't think so. They should just make great music. That's the torch that should be borne...the making of great music...not a particular legacy or "sound".

The only band I can think of that REALLY held the torch, 'til last December 3rd, unfortunately, for one band which they were essentially shaped from (Black Sabbath) was and still is Cathedral. They captured the spirit of Sabbath not only by paying tribute on borrowing some riffs and ideas, but mainly in learning how to progress and experiment like Sabbath did - and hopefully will do on the new opus.

Also, it has to be a British band to carry Maiden's torch. See what happened when Sepultura invented nu metal without knowing it and unitedstater bands 'held the torch' or when Dream Theater proclaimed themselves Rush's torch carriers - pathetic, complete, utter trainwreck.

Nobody can replace them, but it’s at least a comfort, that they have managed to put out so many studio, and live albums for us to revisit.
Hopefully there will be some outtakes, and rarities coming our way, after the band split up.

Tebow should add Barber to his x-mas card list.

Haha Bearfan,  sorry man.  Couldn't resist.  The hand of God pushing Barber out and stripping the ball...  Anyway great point Jeffmetal.  I remember listening to Children of the Damned for the first time and the Sabbath influence. Hence the carrying of the torch.... So too may a great new band emerge with Maiden influence, i should never say never.  The love for these guys just runs so deep for me.  Every memory in my life I recall shares the Maiden that was new or I was listening most to at that time.
Every time, no matter what was going on in  my life, these guys have been there for me.  Good times and bad.  I hope this doesn't come across as silly, I can see how it may.  But this is more than music for some. I dearly hope another act grabs the torch...but It will never be quite the same.

:ok: That's it in a nutshell... bands like Maiden and Zeppelin will always be relevant, long after the band members are gone. Bands like Kingdom Come and any neo-Maiden wannabes will get Warhol's 15 minutes and not a lot else...

I remember bullet for my valentine proclaiming they would take over from maiden in a kerrang i think late last year...
The sad thing is when maiden are gone this kind of thing will be more common... Thats just plain disrespect though   I pray that nu metal doesnt try and say that again

But yeah i hope music can develop a band that sounds their own way but at maidens level. for now however i dont see that happening soon and theres a long road ahead to find a band that will be able to fill the void. til then lets have another few tours with mighty maiden themselves

Most the bands I like are going down the same path as Maiden, but in all honesty I give Maiden another 15 years.

What about Kamelot? Their pretty good, their nowhere close to Maiden's level but then again neither are most modern metal bands. I still think their pretty good and they have meaning behind lyrics and opened for Maiden in Argentina.

No band at this time, but I don't think I will ever be fed up with Maiden, so there's plenty of stuff to listen to.
And I expect new great bands to be explored by me.
