Who will carry the torch?

I've scanned a full-size colour version of the page, but was unable to upload it on the site. Record it on your computer from the page (I did it myself to check) and you will be able to read it.

Thankfully, Davey won't be carrying the torch! :D

No, I'll give you that. You're streching "Dave has long named its fantastic solo as his favourite" though. Obviously, the "fantastic" in that sentence is your inserted opinion (rather than Dave's) --but he certainly did say "QfF from the last album", when asked what solo he was most proud of. You'd guess the questioning was focusing on PoM though. Either way, H's lead is pretty mediocre compared to other leads he wrote/played. Davey's? Hmmm, it's hardly a standout. I'd still place little importance on a statement made in some magazine from the early eighties. It's not really grounds for claiming it's some sort of long standing Davey favourite, I don't think.

What CriedwhenBrucieLeft said.

By the same standards we can also assume that To Tame a Land is Steve Harris' favorite Maiden song, and I think we can all agree that this is not the case.

I have seen more sportive reactions on this forum, man. First you thought Dave never stated that he ever mentioned QFF as a song with a favourite solo (basing that on your own opinion of the solo). Then you asked for proof, then proof came (harrisdevot even made a scan). Too bad I didn´t see the look on your face when he posted that picture, mhaha. Now that you were proved wrong you try to minimize the meaning of it. Don´t let your subjectivity get in the way! You certainly can´t deny Dave´s own opinion with your opinion. :nonono:

By the way, ´from the last album´ in this sentence could mean that he wanted to explain to the interviewer that Quest For Fire is a song from the last album, rather than, ´my favourite solo from the last album´ only.

Bottomline: you (and others) immensely dislike this song and therefore you guys find it hard to accept a positive opinion, and it´s even harder to stand when something positive was said by one of the Maiden members themselves. Well, I am not fooled by that coloured view, and I assume harrisdevot is neither.

If you're referring to me as one of the "others who dislike this song and cannot accept a positive opinion" I honestly couldn't give a flying frack what you or anyone else thinks of the song. It has no bearing at all on how I feel about it.

I have noticed that:
I have absolute respect for people's taste and have said so many times on this forum, I must admit though I laughed quite a bit to Quest for Fire being touted as better than Where Eagles Dare, Revelations an Still Life. Keep it up ;)

Alright, well you can accept it, but I felt there was an urge to make it ridiculous. I certainly saw a flying frack.

I thought it was funny, certainly doesn't change my view on the song. I've been reading the thread since that post weeks ago and it still is funny. Hardly a "flying frack" but have at it. I'm enjoying reading it.

Two words immediately spring to mind: shaky, & peg. All I did was question the readily inferred meaning (I suggest, by most) behind the original harrisdevot statement: Dave has long named its fantastic solo as his favourite. (Even you were surprised Forostar; note your [Really?] reaction.)

As flippant as my question may have appeared to you (“QfF: Dave says this "fantastic" solo is his personal favourite, from all the solo/lead work he has ever written or performed for IM?! Come on. When did he say this?”), I did, in the interest of discussion, want to read where this statement was made. I appreciate that harrisdevot was paraphrasing, but clearly the meaning has been significantly skewed in the process.

The central issue is the idea that Dave has (or had) long held (what else would be inferred from “long named”?) the view that his solo (although harrisdevot doesn’t state which lead, H’s or Dave’s, he [harrisdevot] is referring to) is his favourite solo (--presumably with IM, that he played.) Aside from the fact that he was asked what solo he was most proud of (no mention is made of “fantastic” or “favourite”), his view (that he is most proud of QfF) can only (unless we have some more recent quotes) be viewed for what it is --a snap-shot of his opinion, from circa 1983/1984; unless the article dates to a far later date. This, to me, does not support the statement harrisdevot makes. That is all I’m suggesting. (I agree with your assessment that “from the last album” is probably only clarifying the album QfF is on, rather than suggesting that this is the solo he is most proud of, from PoM.)

Your straw man argument, about me “immensely” disliking this song, is supported by no comment that I’ve made on these forums.

I have exaggerated indeed when I said "immensely". For the rest I voiced my opinion, which was a reaction on your comments. I'll try to be more careful with my phrasings.

Don't (be more careful), seriously; I'm merely nit-picking, for... nit-picking sake! I know, terribly annoying. But, I do enjoy these tart exchanges we sometime have Forostar.:D

In regard to the picture/interview: I’m genuinely surprised he said that --you should have seen my face! ;)
