Agreed. I think this has been handled a bit awkwardly. NP had a good reason as he explained, but I understand if it all seems like a bait-and-switch now. Hopefully, if this game works well and the idea is tried again, we'll all know how to handle it better.
And yeah, this was never attempted before, so cut me some slack Alright, so you guys have a couple of days to revise order of songs in your lists if you want (no new songs!), and I'll come back to this in a couple of days to tell you when the revision time is over.
This is where it goes wrong for me. Because I tried to avoid stuff that I thought would be duplicates. Had I known this was a competition, I'd just go straight to my absolute favorites.
Edit: Going back to the last pages, I realized this post echoes what Foro said earlier so no need to answer me back.
I think there's a general misunderstanding here... the main point of the game is still voting for the best song, once the voting starts. The "competition" between forum members is nothing serious; it's a sideshow. Just a little added fun that NP wanted to try out.
I kind of like the fact that the competition part of it got announced later -- kept the lists free of gamesmanship. I hope to draft, as my four picks, Parts I through IV of Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music."
We have all the guesses! There are 120 unique songs from the 180 submissions. Nobody guessed 120 or higher, so the draft order is simply the guesses from high to low. Congratulations to Foro, who was only off by one!
The draft order doesn't matter to Perun or Mosh. They were the only two people with an entirely unique list (no dupes), and they'll get their top 4 epics unchallenged.
For everyone else: there were only 32 songs which appeared on more than one list. This mean that at minimum, the final game will contain 32 songs which were picked by only one person. In truth, it is unlikely that all 32 duped songs will be drafted into the game. A mock draft with the original list orders resulted in 25 duped songs and 39 single-person songs in the list. In that mock draft, most people got at least 2 of their unique songs into their 4-song "team".
Here is the full list of songs that were duplicated (selected by more than one person):
(Alphabetically by artist/title)
Alter Bridge, "Blackbird"
Black Country Communion, "Song Of Yesterday"
Bruce Dickinson, "Book Of Thel"
Coheed & Cambria, "In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3"
Deep Purple, "Child In Time"
Dream Theater, "A Change Of Seasons"
Dream Theater, "Learning To Live"
Dream Theater, "Metropolis"
Genesis, "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight"
Genesis, "Supper's Ready"
Guns 'n Roses, "Coma"
Guns 'n Roses, "Estranged"
Guns 'n Roses, "November Rain"
Helloween, "Halloween"
Iced Earth, "Damien"
Iced Earth, "Travel In Stygian"
King Crimson, "Epitaph"
Led Zeppelin, "Achilles Last Stand"
Metallica, "...And Justice For All"
Metallica, "Master Of Puppets"
Nightwish, "Ghost Love Score"
Opeth, "Reverie / Harlequin Forest"
Pink Floyd, "Pigs (Three Different Ones)"
Pink Floyd, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts I-V"
Queensryche, "Suite Sister Mary"
Rainbow, "Stargazer"
Running Wild, "Treasure Island"
Rush, "2112"
Rush, "Xanadu"
Sabaton, "Rise Of Evil"
Symphony X, "The Odyssey"
Yes, "Roundabout"
Night Prowler has told me to announce: the deadline for your revised list (revised order for the draft, that is) is December 14. Send it to the same email address (warofepics@gmail.com).
If you have some of the above duped songs in your list and really want them credited to you in the game, you might want to move them up in your draft order. OTOH, if you have songs not on this list (your unique songs) that you really want in the game, you might want to move those up instead. Nobody is required to revise their list, but Night Prowler has said he'll allow each person two revisions if they want.
Again, my apologies for any confusion. Because we're trying something new, we ended up running it awkwardly on this first game. I promise: revising your draft order, if you choose to do so, is the last bit of "work" involved. All the rest is on NP. We thank you for your patience.
A final thought, and a bit of a cheat... I know there's a lot of Sabaton fans here. The Sabaton epic, though present on multiple lists, was ranked too low, and did not make the game in the mock draft. In other words: unless someone who picked Sabaton moves it up in their list, Sabaton's "Rise Of Evil" will not get into the game!
I'll give no other hints, but to be fair I thought I should point this one out.
The draft order doesn't matter to Perun or Mosh. They were the only two people with an entirely unique list (no dupes), and they'll get their top 4 epics unchallenged.
Question: if the highest 4 in my list are unique, don't I also get my top 4 epics unchallenged? Perhaps I don't get the word unchallenged in this sense, or don't get the rules at all, but do I or anyone else have to change (or do) anything if we want to have our highest 4 in our team (once again: if these top 4 are already unique)?
edit: wait a minute, perhaps we have to bring the songs that were already chosen (the duplicates) down in our lists.

I am not used to the words draft, mock, let alone mock draft. I don't understand how it is decided which songs will get in someone's team.
If there were 32 songs appearing on more than one list, then how does that mean that the final game will contain 32 unique songs? Perhaps I need a scheme.
I'm assuming, if your Top 4 songs are unique, those will be your songs in the game. If, let's say, your #1 song is a duplicate, then you have to hope that the other person (or people) who picked that song are below you in the draft order OR have other songs ranked higher on their list so that your #1 is still around when your turn comes.
However, @Forostar - stop worrying! You should get all the songs you want as first pick!
Yes you do. I made the statement about Perun and Mosh because they had no duplicates.
Every player will get any unique songs that appear in your top 4 positions, guaranteed. The draft only affects duplicated songs. You may get unique songs listed below #4 if your top 4 contains duplicates that are assigned to someone else in the draft.
I think I understand, but I want to confirm: I should now revise my list of 12 songs to reflect the order in which I would prefer to "draft" the songs into the game -- i.e., move to the top of my list the songs I think will be most successful in the survivor-type game -- rather than my own personal preference. Is that right? Also, I assume I can't add replace songs on my original list with songs that weren't previously there, correct?
