Also, yes, there are duplicates, and there's also a way how to deal with them, thanks to SMX :) Shall be revealed when I get all the lists.

Indeed, and I'll let NP reveal all the details, but I will say this much: NP has asked to you submit more songs than are actually needed, because we assume that duplicates will happen. It's all covered. ;)

I'm afraid that not many out here are aware of long songs (that they like). Simply because most of the artists they listen to made short songs. They happen to know a few because of Maiden, but don't feel like exploring more music with longer than average length.

How do you know that?

I can estimate that by seeing the Now Playing thread and (lack of involvement) in certain (game) threads. Plus the unpopularity of some longer tracks in the instrumental game and other games that mix up longer with shorter songs. It's a guess, but absolutely not a wild one.

Hmm, I'm not sure if all those things - especially the Now Playing thread - are reliable bases for evaluation.

From the people I know well on this forum, I'd disagree with Foro. We never have a shortage of material during Epic Night in chat. Metal and rock are full of epics, I don't think picking out 12 favorites is an especially tall order.

Plus I can also see that certain genres that feature long songs are not that popular out here, but I rather not get too deep into that now, because we're getting closer to talk of lists.

As soon as one more player sends a list to NP, we can move on to the next stage of the game - and that's as far as secrecy is required. We'll soon be able to talk openly, after stage 2.

I can send a list, but I fear it will duplicate many others' lists.

Don't worry, we've taken that into account. We're asking you for more songs than we need, so that we have enough once duplicates are removed. There are more details to come, but we need 12 songs from every player first. :D

On top of that, 8 minutes is a fairly short limit. There are plenty of songs that reach that length and might not even be what some of us would consider "epics". A song like The Root Of All Evil by Dream Theater or Disposable Heroes by Metallica.

War of Epics, Stage 2: The Draft

We have 15 lists with 12 songs each. (Night Prowler has not yet picked his songs, and will not do so yet, stay tuned.) This means that if we disregard duplicate songs, we have a possible range from 12 unique songs (if everyone has the exact same list except for order) up to 180 unique songs (if there are no duplicates).

Each player is invited (actually, required) to guess the correct number of unique songs from the 15 lists we have now. NP has confirmed there are duplicates, so it’s a number from 12 to 179. Post your guess in this thread! For instance, if you’d guess that there are 50% dupes, you’d guess 90 unique songs.

We will have a draft to distribute the duplicate songs. Your position in the draft order is based on how close you guess to the correct number of unique songs. In the event of a tie, the lower guess wins. (If 150 is right, 148 beats a guess of 152). Guesses must be posted here, and you are not allowed to duplicate someone else’s guess. Night Prowler, as the guy who had to take an advance look at the lists to find the number of unique songs, is last in the draft order.

After you have guessed, you can revisit your list, and re-order your songs for the draft. You are not allowed to change which songs are on your list, only the order. Remember: if there’s a song you really want on your list, and you think it’s duplicated, it’s a good idea to put it high in your draft order. Send your revisions to NP at warofepics@gmail.com. There is still a ban on talking about your list until everyone has submitted their draft order.

Once we have the draft-order lists, and the actual draft order from the guesses, we’ll starting running through that draft order. You get the highest song in your list (that isn’t taken yet) assigned to your “team”, until everyone has 4 epics. Night Prowler will select his 4 epics at the very end from songs not taken yet. (The ban on talking about lists will be lifted when we do the draft.)

This game will have both a song winner and a person winner. Night Prowler has a special secret prize for both the person who wins the game (Warlord of Epics) and for the 2nd placed person (Lieutenant of Epics). How can you win the game? That shall be revealed at a later point. Set up your draft order carefully!

I think you erred on your math. If 56% are dupes, then 44% are unique. You need to guess the number of unique songs, which would be 79. Your current guess of 123 is actually 56% unique.
