Great job by Italy, fair play to them. Overachievers despite being out in the Quarters imo, they were missing arguably their two best players in the tournament.

But glad Germany advanced. More fun team to watch I think.
 
Crap... What did Graziano Pelle do?

Italy have nothing to be ashamed of, especially keeping in mind the tough draw they had, but they deserved a place in the semis.

One of the worst things about this loss is that we'll probably never see Buffon in a big tournament again.

He said he'll retire after the 2018 World Cup. Unless he has a sharp decline, which I doubt, we'll see him one more time.

The longest one I've watched was between Dundee United and Celtic in a League Cup semi-final a few years ago. It went back to the first penalty takers with Celtic winning 11-10 I think. :( Liverpool had a longer one against Middlesbrough a couple of years ago as well, 14-13 I think.

So even when Germany are shit at penalties they still win the shoot-out. There were some awful penalties from quality players in that shoot-out. Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Pelle. All terrible. Overall the quality of football hasn't been great in this tournament. I remember the 2010 World Cup being like this until the second round of group games, when Diego Forlan got things going with a long-range strike against South Africa. Euro 2008 was mostly really good. This one though.... :yawn:
 
I'm re-watching this shootout and am laughing at Zaza and Pelle. Zaza made more steps in his runup than while he was on the pitch and Pelle... Well, lesser said the better.
