@RTC What you don't get is that "liking" a sports team is entirely up to what the viewer likes. None of us like to see a boring team prevail. That's it. None of us suggested that what Portugal is doing is wrong. What we suggest is that's it's not fun to watch. Having fun is the reason we watch a match between two nations that we're neutral on, you know.
Wrote a post, then realized you already said everything I wanted to say :P

One more factor about why we don't like (or at least myself) Portugal is their smug attitude like when Ronaldo complained about Iceland's "small mentality" of celebrating a draw and only defending and blahblahblah, yet Portugal reaches the semis without a single victory in regular time.

Speaking of Ronaldo, I don't really mind it when Ronaldo dominates in a match, wins it and celebrates it like a king. But it fucking gets on my nerves when he makes himself the center of attention after winning a match that he played like shit in.

This year's Champions League Final was the worst case scenario from this angle. Ronaldo played like shit but by luck got the winning penalty and celebrated it like he was the one responsible for it all. Meanwhile, the real man of the match, Gareth Bale, celebrated it just like any other dude. The same happened yesterday, too, Ronaldo missed all the big chances then after it was over, he was the center of attention again.

That's the nature of big money draws. Love him or loathe him, Ronaldo is a name that has transcended the sport, and is always going to be the center of attention, even if it isn't entirely warranted.

No, that's not what I'm saying. He makes himself the centre of attention. Celebrates wins with bigger moves than anyone else -see 2014 Champions League Final and the way he takes his shirt off after scoring a penalty that essentially didn't mean anything-, doesn't go to his teammates to celebrate goals/wins, the way he shouts at his teammates after every mistake they make, etc. The guy is the biggest megalomaniac football superstar I've ever seen.

You probably notice it more with him because the camera is on him more. And the fact that the camera is on him more isn't 100% his fault.

Although I don't disagree with your sentiment that Ronaldo is stubborn.

Perhaps football needs to change to encourage a more exciting game, then.

That's largely up to the referee. If he doesn't sanction so called tactical fouls then forget the creative part. Sole purpose of a tactical foul is to stop adversary's offense. Portugese against Cro, referee gave a first yellow card after 7-8 tactical fouls done by same guy. He got booked around 40' and he got replaced half time, different guy, same task, no risk of red card.

This can be rewritten in rules. Fouls are contextual and severity of punishment depends on the situation. But if we have last-defender rule; if you foul enemy's offense while being the last man between him and goal(keeper), that's a red card. Tactical fouls are done at adversary's counter offense, and the player who commited foul went to stop a player, not a ball. 3 times by same player -> yellow, additional two, red. Just for this. Also, if any player refuses to get up (or can't get up) from the pitch, immediate stop of the game, immediate carry out, judge's throw from the spot where game was stopped, and the problematic player is not allowed to return for minimum of 2 minutes. (no delay effective if team wishes to substitute him immediately).

It's known that some UEFA referees are influencing the game in this way. You'll usually hear commentators saying 'referee Doe allows tougher play', meaning, he doesn't like players which cannot take a beating. Which is completely unfair.

Refusal to adapt rules is #1 reason for decline of handball popularity throughout the zone (continental and east Europe/ex-YU/Scandinavia). They simply let these people with whistles influence the game so much. The notion of passive attack is completely subjective, there's no metric, time-wise, pass-wise, zone-wise or anything else.

Everyone I root for is getting eliminated. Already made peace with Italy winning tomorrow and in the semis and Portugal being the other finalist since those two are the ones I hate the most out of the remaining teams.

I'm watching Belgian television now. Man what a deception they're experiencing out there. And I feel with them. They expected much more from this match.
A good first quarter, but then their play became chaotic. Their defense became a problem but it was also difficult to reach their attackers. Too crowded.

In the Belgian studio, there's a big discussion now about the coach and Jan Mulder, a Dutch guest, defends him. He feels that it's not (just) the coach but he also puts blame in the (abilities of some of the) players. It's more about psychology, a mental thing. The Belgians are kind of offended by his criticism, and "prefer" to blame the coach.
