The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

I have a strong belief that something else will come up. Trust me on this. ;)
Yeh, like the usual two London gigs. Bah.

I counted this up (the last time I was really pissed off! :p) & the UK breakdown (bringing it up to date) is as follows:

Since Bruce & Adrian returned in 1999 (The Ed Hunter Tour) Maiden have played the UK 49 times in 17 years (taking that up to the summer of 2016): of those 49 dates, 24 dates were either London gigs or festivals (16 & 8 respectively); the remaining 25 dates were all on album tours (in 2000, 2003, 2006, & 2011). For comparison, in the same time-frame the US had ~188 dates & Germany ~42 dates.

Doesn't sound that bad when you read it. But really, outside London, the UK has only really had sporadic touring over the last decade or so.
The Ed Hunter Tour 1999 - No UK dates
BNW Tour 2000 - 4 dates
(London, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham)
BNW Tour 2001 - 2 dates (both London)
BNW Tour 2002 - 3 dates (all Brixton, London)
Give Me Ed Tour 2003 - 1 date (Festival, Donington)
DoD Tour 2003 - 8 dates
(Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Cardiff, & Birmingham)
DoD Tour 2004 - No UK dates
Eddie Rips Up World Tour 2005 - 3 dates (London & two festival dates in Leeds & Reading)
AMoLaD Tour 2006 - 8 dates
(Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, & London twice)
AMoLaD Tour 2007 - 2 dates (Festival, Donington & London)
SBiT Tour 2008 - 1 date (London)
SBiT Tour 2009 - No UK dates
TFF Tour 2010 - 1 date (Festival, Knebworth)
TFF Tour 2011 - 11 dates
(Glasgow, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast, & London twice)
ME Tour 2012 - No UK dates
ME Tour 2013 - 3 dates (Donington & London twice)
ME Tour 2014 - 1 date (Festival, Knebworth)
BoS Tour 2016 - 1 date (Festival, Donington)

TOTAL: 49 dates; 16 in London; further 8 festivals (mainly Donington).
The remaining 25 gigs on four respective album tours: 2000, 2003, 2006, & 2011.
It stinks that there are no other UK shows this year, but...

We know they had planned North America to take place THIS year, likely with the UK to follow - similar to TFF in 2010.

They had probably already contracted with Download to play an "Exclusive" headline show this year.

This might be completely out of their control- maybe they'd love to do a full UK arena tour but simply can't due to the timing and contractual obligations.

...just saying.
Very probably true. Blame cancer.
I had planned to fly to England if they didn't do an arena gig in France but we all have the same problem. I'm gutted: I was hoping for a Bercy gig.
There might be another French gig though. Does it say this is the only date France will get?

And so the 5 year wait for a UK tour becomes 6 years. Considering its their home country they really seem to have something against us lately. Perhaps I'll move to the USA for the next album..... In the meantime I'll whine and moan and STILL fork out hundreds of pounds to travel 4 or 5 hours to Download and watch a load of shit bands I dont like, whilst camping in a field surrounded by annoying drunk teenagers away from home for the first time. And it will still be by far the best gig I see in 2016.....

This is exactly what I think.

Pollstar just reported that 1 extra gig in Berlin to come: "one final show in Berlin, details of which have yet to be revealed." Lucky Germans get 4.

Download could have been only English show, is a shame for the Scots, sure Maiden could have played smallish football stadium, so people in Northern England could have gone to that. Hopefully Dublin as that's not officially in UK.

Maybe Christmas 2016 tour?

Trying to look on bright side, Dublin isn't part of UK. I do think that as BoS went number 1 in UK with 60K sales that they should do more shows in UK. In Australia and NZ BoS didn't set the world on fire but they get 7 shows.

So hope UK and US get a few more arena shows.

I agree with this. While I'm not from UK, I understand how disappointing this may be. But maybe the decision where to play is not in the band's hands. We know they were supposed to be touring this year, but everything had to be delayed for reasons we already know. Maybe the UK dates were planned for this year and the festival dates for 2016, but due to contractual obligations or something, they can't change it anymore.

Why per se England if you live in France? Enough other countries left, harrisdevot. England is more expensive than your other neighbours, anyway.

The original announcement on the official website already mentioned that:

One final concert for 2016 in Germany, in Berlin, is being finalised and will be announced next week.

Maiden don't do stadiums in the UK. They'll be playing The Hydro if they play Scotland at all.
Hopefully Dublin as that's not officially in UK
Is it unofficially though?
Maybe Christmas 2016 tour?
It wouldn't have been impossible for them to have done UK dates in November after a break. But, they've already said this is the only UK date they'll be playing in 2016. Unless Brigs decides otherwise...

I hope they play another venue/date in Sweden other than Gothenburg June 17. But if that's the only one then I guess that's where I gotta be.
Could be an opportunity for a Scandinavian Maidenfans meet-up?

Don't sit around waiting for it. Besides, no venue in Sweden can match the kind of atmosphere that you have in Ullevi.. Maybe Stockholm stadium, but that one is too small nowadays. Forget friends...

First of all, I enjoyed my stay in England for the British Lion gig. Second, I have low cost flights from my home town. Third, I life in the westermost part of France (could not been further west without falling into the Ocean) so, my other neighbours are really distant. Anyway, I will be able able to attend the Download gig, which is fine and I will try to make my way to the front rows like I did two years ago.
