Maiden related news
1) UK & Europe tour will start April 2017. So if you couldn't make it to Download or elsewhere, you'll have a second chance next year.
2) Bruce Dickinson is not only touring with Iron Maiden but flying with The Great War Display Team in their 2016 air displays. So hurry up and you may catch them in Flywheel!
3) A novel featuring Bruce Dickinson, occultism and Lovecraftian stuff will be self-published in August and Mr Dickinson will receive a book. Just because he loves horror stories.
I'll post links for these news later on. Have a great week!

Is this reliable? Getting just a teensy weensy bit excited at the thought.....

Thanks, I figured out that too from the videos but wanted to confirm. In any case, studio version has Smith's rhythm guitar under the verses (01:58, right channel), and I would also say there's an extra palm muted track behind the main melody.
I am not amused by this outcome because it really takes away the punch. I have a big stereo and when I crank up that vinyl version this riff beneath the verses is driving the whole thing. Looks like it's missing live :(
I happen to get a kick out of these big chords... sounds harmonic and very rich.

Unfortunately Bruce had some sort of a cold in Tokyo. Ah well, shit happens, the recording is very nice, but his voice gives me lack of breath at times.

But does Bruce sing (much) better? If yes, I might go for the download. Listen to the The Book of Souls from the Tokyo gig... ouch.
Hm, I don't remember. I deleted it after I realised the quality sucks. The whole band sounded mono. I've listened to the Tokyo show twice now and I love it. The quality of instruments makes up for Bruce's struggles for me.

I haven't heard the Tokyo bootleg, but i loved the Sydney one. I don't like recordings that isolates the crowd noise completely, it lacks...i don't know, life. Bruce's voice ain't great in Australia, though, so i'll take that the Tokyo concert is even worse.

Either way, considering Maiden touring across Europe in April/May and Medina's love for both Maiden and Metallica, there's a large chance they'll play at Rock in Rio. So:

April/May: Europe
June/July/August: US/Canada
September: Latin America, ending with Rock in Rio on late September

Seems reasonable to me. I would love a Maiden/Metallica headliners on Saturday/Sunday

Bruce sounds fantastic- struggles a bit on Death or Glory as usual, but that song is a killer. I'd download it- it's a great performance.

On the Book of Souls in Tokyo? Are you serious? He can't reach the high notes in the choruses.

Perhaps I am spoiled because I was one of the (few?) people who have heard Bruce in optima forma. His performance on Download is also way better than in Tokyo where it really doesn't go well.

Thanks @Naty !

Speaking as someone who was at Download, some of those high notes were missing. I put it down to mic problems at the time, until the same thing happened in Oslo. I think someone has tweaked the sound, maybe boosted the vocals, at those spots where Bruce's voice didn't come through properly.

No, at those spots it's him holding the mic farther away.

Yes. He's been doing this the whole tour and the last few years in general. It is two things: to avoid overpowering the mic with a higher, more belted note, AND to mask the quality of a hard-to-reach note that is probably declining due to, ya know, being older.

If that's what he's doing, the end result was a very, very feint noise only. I know he holds it away when he's powering into a long/high note or a scream, but the mouth-going-and-no-sound thing is new to me. I swear there are notes in the Download footage that we didn't hear on the night.

I was referring to the Sydney bootleg...
