The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

One song per city, with São Paulo and Buenos Aires/Santiago gaining an extra song? That's completely improbable, but i want to hope that i'll appear on a Maiden DVD :D
Why would that be improbable? They did it with Flight 666 on a larger scale. By the way, in a bonus from the Death on The Road dvd, a member of the organisation said they "pro-tooled" all the shows, the way he put it included video captures too I think.
Actually, I think a live video dedicated to South America would fit the visual theme of the Book of Souls well (they can always shoot the live video for the next album - Ribs and Guns XVII- in the USA ;) ).

For all Janick haters who might be reading this... He co-wrote Dance Of Death and The Book Of Souls, please give him some respect FFS.

They had those cameras here too, i think they're filming only for the big screens on the side.

But doesn't Bruce says to the crowd that they're being filmed when they are? He said that in Donington'07, Rock in Rio'01 and, if my memory doesn't fail me, in Dortmund'04.
He says it too often. Donington 07 probably won't be released, it was a "disaster". Bruce should have kept shut. He said in Argentina 2011 that they were filming. They ended up releasing only the Chile show. He should have kept shut that time too.

En Vivo 2011 is:

Audio - Chile 100%
Video - Chile 70%
Argentina 25%
Sunrise Florida 5% (some scenes feature Dave playing a LP on The Wicker Man, and that only happened on Florida)

Why disaster? In what way?

I think he means the things that went wrong that day. Bruce falling during Wratchild...the intro tape to Number of the Beast not working, the band perhaps not playing as well as they had on other nights that tour etc. Just not the kinda show you want to release on DVD really...The whole thing was live streamed anyway, so I don't know why people keep requesting this show for release. It's out there anyways on YouTube for all to see :)

Нe wrote them and that's great. But all the solos must be invented and played by Dave and Adrian.

I am not sure where thinking Janick at times looks a bit silly with his stage dancing=Janick hater

Seems like a good guy, I am glad he is in the band, he writes some really good stuff, but sticks out like a sore thumb at times on stage. The playing around he does with Eddie during TBOS and with Bruce during Trooper are cool, his stage stuff during IM -- not so much. I think that last part does not really make me a hater.

I saw that Ed Force One landed at JFK last night, so I assume the boys will be hanging around the city until the show Wednesday. Any band sightings?

Steve changed the bass during the encore in Sao Paulo...

Steve almost never uses his main bass for the encores on this tour. It seems that in Sao Paulo he picked up the blue one. On most of the other shows he picked up the signature prototype. The signature prototype can be distinguished from his main bass with two things: Darker blue and it has Fender logo on the headstock (the main one doesn't have it).

Alright, so let me tell you guys a little bit about my experience in São Paulo.

This one was my 4th Iron Maiden show. First one was on TFF world tour and the other two were from Maiden England tour, including Rock In Rio 2013. This one was, without any doubt, the best performance I have seen from the band, including Bruce, ofc. I was very close to the barrier, maybe 2 or 3 meters from it. It's exausting but it is certainly worth it.

Maybe this concert was my favorite because this time they came to South America on the beginning of the tour instead of the end, or maybe because The Book of Souls is as good as any album from 80's. I don't know. What I do know is that I'm still "shocked" with Bruce's performance. The man is a legend. It's just a joy that he is singing as good as 5 years ago or even better. I'm not exaggerating: he could hit all the high notes just like in the studio album. His performance was MUCH better than on Maiden England tour. Much better.

Highlights (my opinion, ofc):

1- If Eternity Should Fail - I was shocked how everyone was singing to this song. You know, people normally don't sing the new album songs. It didn't happen with If Eternity Should Fail. It sounded like an instant classic and everyone was singing to it. Hell, the chorus was really, really loud. Amazing.
2- Children of the Damned - Bruce's performance on this song was out of this world.
3- Tears of a clown - Very emotional song - it works really well live and the crowd seems to love it.
4- The Red and the Black - Works really well live.
5- Powerslave - Wow, this makes me think that powerslave could have been as overplayed as the number of the beast or fear of the dark during all these years. It's a classic! Everybody sings to it, everybody loves it. What a great surprise to this tour!
6- The Book of Souls - This song is a masterpiece. Solos, everything. Unbelievable how Bruce "learned" to sing it live from the first show to this one. Now he is singing just like in studio or even better.
7- Hallowed Be Thy Name - Simply because it's probably the best heavy metal song ever written.
8- Fear of the dark - Yeah... Watch the videos from the crowd and you will understand why it will never be dropped from the setlist. Just beautiful.
9- Blood Brothers - What a great surprise for me! At first, I was against it on the setlist, especially because it was played on TFF world tour, but the fact is that it worked on encore and the crowd singing the chorus was so beautiful that I cried like a little kid.

Don't get me wrong - I liked all the songs but these were the highlights. The only song that sounded a little strange for me was Death or Glory. I'm not sure what's going on but the song sounds different, especially the intro. But yeah, the crowd was singing loud the chorus and Bruce did an amazing job.

To sum it up: Iron Maiden is still killing it and I am 100% sure that EVERYONE who was there in São Paulo was impressed enough so the next time Maiden comes to Brazil, we will go there again to sing out loud with our heroes.

I noticed how they changed Death or Glory too. I don't know why, but the melody in the chorus reminded a lot CIPWM.

About Powerslave, I'm still amazed that I got the chance to hear it live. It's a snubbed classic, I would hear it being overplayed over RttH all day long. It was one of the highlights for me too.

IESF is on the same hall of Aces High and Wicker Man as Maiden's best openers. I was amazed how everyone was crazy with the song here too. Everyone jumped and sang the song with all they got.

This tour is one of Maiden's best. And we got to see it early, even better

It really did not take much to figure out IESF would be the opener on the tour and it worked just perfectly as an opener .. especially adding in Bruce singing the intro ... beyond the cool staging and how well it sounded it was a perfect way for Bruce to tell the crowd that his voice suffered no ill effects from the cancer/cancer treatment

The Tears of a Clown backdrop was just awesome, too bad we are not still in the age of physical singles, that would look damn good on an album cover

TBOS was just fucking perfect. IESF and TBOS are both instant live classics to be and I hope they survive beyond this tour.

This. I Hope that IESF TBOS and TOAC are played on the following tours too. Especially the first two.

Except Death or Glory and Speed of Light, I want to see all of the other songs on future tours. It's amazing how Tears of a Clown, a very cool song on the studio, has become a monster live. H solo is absurd, so is Bruce singing, the riff...it was, with Powerslave, IESF and TRatB, my favorite moment of the gig.

Bruce singing the intro, with all the smoke, is a highlight in Maiden history. This tour urges a DVD.

2nd leg, here I come

Ok, I dare everyone to say what song is the biggest let-down on this tour, which lived to expectations before the tour begun and which one is the biggest surprise. Here are my observations:

Letdown - Death Or Glory; was expecting a lot more from this song live but in the end it doesn't work. I thought it will work great, but it doesn't. Maybe it would if it was released on something fromm the 80's or as a single (people would be more familiar with it), but now it just lacks crowd participation in the chorus and some more energy from the band. However H's slide solo is great.

Lived up to expectations - The Book Of Souls; Let's face it, when the album was released we knew that this will be an epic song live. An epic song with an epic production = pure win. Was expecting that.

Exceeded expectations - Well there are 2:
-IESF; Probably the best opener since Wicker Man or even Moonchild. Just amazing. The intro, the heavyness, the scene. This song is a live monster. The crowd really seems to be into it. Even in the USA people went bananas during this song.
-TOAC; Wasn't expecting much from this song live, nothing more than a time filler, but it turned into an amazing song live. I like it on the album, but I didn't think it would work live. Again amazing solos and even if Bruce doesn't insist on singing with him the crowd does that. Thank you Nicko for insisting to perform this song live.

I agree with DoG ... it was good, but not spectacular ... my least favorite of the new songs

I had high expectations for IESF and TBOS ... they both were even better than I thought. TRATB I thought worked better live than on the album .. same with TOAC

Blood Brothers was better than I expected .. not a massive fan of the song, but it worked great live and better than I thought as an encore. Same with Wasted Years, worked nicely as a closer and nice to have something else in that spot besides Running Free or Sanctuary.
