For anyone else here, is this the first new release from the band while already being a huge fan of the band? It is for me, so maybe that's helped my instant love for Speed of Light. The Final Frontier was my first metal album, but I started listening to the songs after it was released.

First song I heard was Aces High when I was 10. First show in 87 & been to 20 total.

I didn't like SOL at first listen but, sounds quite good after a few.

I'd prefer they go different avenues. Those first 7 albums, while exceptional, have been done. As a musician myself, I cannot stand to constantly write & play the same style over & over again. There has to be variety to retain interest within the band & for the audience. Maiden is proving it can be done while still staying in the realm of what you want to play. So, I applaud them for trying to evolve.

Well, after hearing Speed Of Light and realising it would have been a B-side in the 80's, I cancelled my pre-order for the album. I'm gonna hear it of course, but Maiden aren't getting any more cash out of me, that's for sure.

Aww, this is terrible news. Please reconsider. :(

So, after listening to this track a few times, I'm coming to the conclusion that the only thing I don't like about it is Bruce.

His scream sounds....tired. And his voice in the first few lines is darker, more Fear of the Darkish. But then it gets going, and starts to sound better. I really enjoy the fun guitar playing along, and I even like the goddamn cowbell.

Those are minor foibles, and I'm sure this song will very quickly become the most played song on my tracklist.

First new album I was there at at release since I became a fan was AMOLAD. It's always nice to hear newer fans talking about their first Maiden album release :)

I honestly feel the opposite about Bruce. To me he sounds like he did in the late 90s, particularly Accident of Birth. Same sound and same energy. It's insane, as if he's aging backwards.

Once he gets going, it sounds like that, it's just the opening of the track that colours my hearing towards the negative.

Same here! Benjamin Breeg was released right before my family vacation in Northern WI, I spent the whole week listening to it on repeat. That song will always have a special place in my heart.

And now, Speed of Light comes out the day before my girlfriend and I head up North for vacation! If that's not a good omen, I don't know what is! :rocker:

To me this song is better than El Dorado, Wildest Dreams, Different World, Final Frontier, Alchemist, Pilgrim, New Frontier....and other shorter songs from the last couple of albums. Still doesn't beat Wicker Man or Rainmaker though...

100% agree. I'd say my new top three for "Reunion Rockers" is now:
1. Wicker Man
2. Rainmaker
3. Speed of Light

For me it's clearly better than Wildest Dreams and El Dorado but that's as far as I'll go. I love Different World and Rainmaker which I both think are far better.

I'm now curious if Death or Glory will be similar to this or not? All reviews I've read so far point to that being less good than Speed of Light.

Hopfully Death or glory is even better than SOL but maybe it is the worst song. It's ok for me if The Book of Souls
only have one crappy song.In fact i will be very happy if i gonna love just 2-3 of the songs
and the rest of the album is ok/good or very good:)
