So I take it you're not a fan of Blood Brothers, Still Life or Infinite Dreams then?

Infinite Dreams, Blood Brothers(not very fond of anyway regardless of song basis) nor Still Life were written after or written specifically about Steve Harris divorce. Please!

Wildest dreams lyrically is a steaming pile of cow dung & we all know it. I know Blood Brothers is about his fathers death & their relationship. But, in reality, that song is nothing special anyway & not as cheesy & lame as Wildest Dreams.

And I have never read anywhere, nor do the lyrics resemble anything pertaining to Steve Harris depressing personal life in Infinite Dreams & Still Life. A lot of younger fans make a big deal about ordinary songs like Rainmaker, Paschendale, Blood Brothers, No More Lies etc...They just aren't anything special. Younger generations may adore them but, in the history books, they are nothing.

You said, and I quote: "I don't want to hear songs about Steve Harris personal life struggles & triumphs in songs. Self indulgence at it's worst."

Infinite Dreams: written about Steve's problems with nightmares/personal demons

Still Life: written about being afraid of the water/ocean

Blood Brothers: written about the death of his father.

Please explain how these three songs are not about Steve's "personal life struggles and triumphs".

Wildest dreams is very catchy and upbeat. Blood Brothers is a personal favorite of mine. However, this is completely subjective.

A lot of younger fans make a big deal about ordinary songs like Rainmaker, Paschendale, Blood Brothers, No More Lies etc...They just aren't anything special. Younger generations may adore them but, in the history books, they are nothing.

To YOU they aren't anything special. To some people they are.

I don't give a shit about "history books". I like songs that are well-crafted and tell a story. To me, all of the reunion-era songs do just that.

At age 44, I'm one of the oldest regulars on this forum. I swear by Live After Death; that Eddie has been my avatar for years. I'm now in my third decade as a Maiden fan.

And, Paschendale is still my favorite Maiden song. The reunion albums are great, and dismissing them like that is entirely unreasonable.

That would make you very presumptive & not very clever. Considering in the last few pages of this thread I applaud the band for changing it up & not rehashing the old days. Try to keep up...

I actually enjoy quite a bit of the newer stuff. I just don't exaggerate mediocrity like some of you guys do.

Perhaps I can put you in a time machine & send you into the future?

Relax, just tried to make a joke as u sounded so bitter about it.

And I for myself am not even that impressed with SOL

I dismissed nothing nor am I bashing anyone for what they like. You guys are a sensitive bunch. I simply do not exaggerate mediocrity. I'm glad it's your favorite. I think it's mediocre.

Completely relaxed & not bitter. Putting you in a time machine was a bit of sarcastic banter.
All cool, I think people exaggerate a bit because it's the first new material in 5 years. I guess when the album's out this song might not even be considered that good anymore

After whole day of rockin' that song I must say one thing. Vocals are quite impressive for someone with golf ball in his throat.
True, but what turns me off that they feel out of place ( bridge and chorus)

Same like 06 with Brighter than a thousand Suns

I actually like the new song. Better than a lot of their reunion material. It's got just a pure hard rock & roll vibe to it. Not trying to tell a story, just rock n roll. Kind of different sounding. I hear Sanctuary in the song too. Catchy Chorus. Harmonies.

I also said, that you didn't quote, that Blood Brothers is not nearly as cheesy as Wildest Dreams. I did not bash Blood Brothers, Rainmaker, Pachendale & whatever else I mentioned. I simply called them ordinary, which lit some panties on fire.

I also specifically mentioned his divorce. That's extremely personal stuff that he should not have someone else singing. Some stuff is better left unknown. Demons/nightmares/fear of death is totally metal & rock n roll imho. Plus, THE LYRICS AREN'T CHEESY! Wildest dreams is the biggest piece of cow flop they've ever released & that includes the Blaze era stuff.

We finally got a single with riffs, innovative vocals, a decent pace. This is a song that did not bore me for a single second. Seeing people say this is a weak track or that the previous singles were better just makes me feel I am listening to a different song than they do.
Agreed . I don't get it either . I don't get the production comparisons with TFF too . Only the drums sound like TFF . The guitars, even in a "single" type of song, sound crushing and haven't sounded this good since SSOASS . I prefer strong guitars than being able to recognise every bass line . I fail to see the muddy sound too, it sounds crystal clear on my iPad .

Everything you're saying is entirely subjective- and I wouldn't have a problem with it, were it not for your dig at "younger generations" liking the newer songs.

It's not a fucking zero-sum game. I prefer later-era Maiden (generally), but I'm not going to go around saying shit like "Oh, all those old people who like the 1980's albums better... they don't understand. That music is so ordinary and will never be remembered."

See what I mean?

I thought the song was pretty decent when I first heard it yesterday, different than what I expected but still solid. But today it's completely clicked with me. I'm enjoying it a lot more now and love it as a rocky single track that will probably end up being the "weakest" track on an album that will probably be filled with absolute monsters.

Well, you should know, that's not my intent. I think it's more factual than subjective. Which generation fans do you always hear about & read about dissing the newer stuff? They don't call some of it ordinary like I do, they bash it ALL to no end. What generation fans tends to gravitate to the newer stuff? Younger generation. Sure there are older gen fans like myself who still love this band & buy it all & give it a fair listen. Large portion of older fans don't even buy their albums anymore. Maiden has reinvented their fan base.

Was it older generation fans holding signs in 2006 at the 2 shows I saw that said "Play Classics"? Yes.
Was it older generation fans in 2010 that were pissing & moaning about the set list being all newer stuff? Yes.

It's pretty irrefutable & not meant as a knock. Just a general observation.
