i cant believe what im reading on here maiden have released an amazing track and your moaning about it are you real maiden fans or what i think some people just like picking at the band and just fart about on here Up THE IRONS
Being a real fan doesn't mean u have to think everything the band does is golden, that's fools gold

Well, after hearing Speed Of Light and realising it would have been a B-side in the 80's, I cancelled my pre-order for the album. I'm gonna hear it of course, but Maiden aren't getting any more cash out of me, that's for sure.

So I just played the CD version of Speed of Light and compared it to El Dorado-

The production is nearly identical aside from the harmony reverb and the vocal reverb and placement in the mix. Rhythm, drums and bass are the same. So, that's a bit disappointing for those of us expecting something radically different. I think the drum sound in particular isn't fitting - was much better on AMOLAD for my taste.

Fire away with any other questions if you got them!

Yeah, I was under the impression we'd maybe get something cleaner sounding than TFF which was a step above DOD/AMOLAD since they were back in the studios where they recorded BNW and from what Adrian said in that interview...but the sound from the single sounds like the production is back to the DOD/AMOLAD quality of sound again. Not necessarily a bad thing - But I had hoped for something more clear.

I don't hate the production, but it's definitely not my favorite. BNW was the last time that everything was very clear. This sounds like a band that's being cluttered by three guitars instead of enhanced by it.

I'm a bit conflicted on that myself. However I will say that I think the production is still the best we've had since BNW, at least in terms of mixing. Dave mentioned in a magazine sometime ago that he wanted to recapture his old tone from the NotB/PoM days and while I don't think he got that sound exactly, the mixing does remind me of an early 80's Martin Birch album. It's more Heaven and Hell or The Mob Rules than anything else, though that's hardly a bad thing at all.

The guitar tone is good and pretty classic sounding, I agree. But the drums and the bass are just so muddy. I honestly don't hear a single distinct bass line in the song. And for Maiden, that's sad.

We love Maiden. This does not mean Maiden is perfect. Maiden released "Hooks in You," after all.

On the other hand...

...this type of attitude is disgraceful. Please go away.

Are the CD version much better in quality than the youtube version? I think the youtube version is a bit muddy and i hope the CD version have a more clean sound....

It is weird that Steve is barely in the mix. He is there and you can hear his bass lines, it just takes a lot of concentration and effort to look for him. It's just very unlike Maiden though.

Cancelling a preorder over a single, when typically, especially of late, Maiden singles are not indicative of the rest of the album or the strength of it. And all the reviews see SOL as not on the same level as the rest of the album. Way to jump the gun LOL

If you want 80's rehashed to death, use your preorder cancellation savings & invest in a time machine. How juvenile you sound. Waaa waaa waaa, Maiden isn't 80's enough anymore. It's 2015!

A band with this longevity wouldn't be playing anymore if all they did was live in their past. You want that? There are plenty of acts you can listen to instead.

Maiden moves forward. I'm sure they won't mind your cancellation & leaving you in the dust.

No, not really. It's almost the exact same mix and muddy sound as TFF aside from Bruce's vocals and the leads.

I get your sentiment, but please don't feed the trolls. It just makes the thread even more unreadable.

That's a shame. It would obviously be preferable to have a more clear sounding rhythm section. However I do think the guitars sound nicer here than they did on TFF.

After more than 5 listenings to the songs i can say that i dont care about the song, there is nothing special right there, the only thing its maiden that is not sounding maiden.I really hope the album goes to another direction,it would be sad for me dont like the last 2 albums.
