The Mid-Distance Runner
Educated Fool
I wrote up my analysis of both Sydney shows in this thread back in February, but now having listened to a bootleg of one of these shows many times over I would just like to add the following regarding the setlist (spoiler alert on songs played):
The setlist really is 99% perfect...particularly from Dance of Death through to The Evil That Men Do. The openers are great, including 2 Minutes which Bruce makes a joke of it being a new song from 1983 (wrong year Bruce, I think). The one song in the main set that didn't quite set well live on both nights, but should remain only in a different position, was Coming Home. don't get me wrong it was fantastic...but just like when I saw a SOT show back in 87 and third song in was COTD it just seemed a little early for a "ballad" as such. Coming Home could easily have sat between NOTB and HTBN in the encore, squeezing out Running Free which is fun but takes a spot that could be used by another song. IMO to make the setlist 100% I would have moved Coming Home to the encore and in its current position at number five either gone with The Alchemist or These Colours Don't Run...two songs to continue the momentum before the haunting intro to Dod at number 6. I am certainly not complaining and in retrospect preferred these shows to the two SBIT shows in 08, but whilst hopeful for as much reunion era as possible to hear 8 songs was fantastic...replacing Running Free with another reunion era song would have made for the ultimate set...and would have offered either 6 new songs or atleast one from each reunion era album. All in all an awesome tour...an awesome setlist...and i cannot wait for the release of the TFF tour DVD/CD.
