Songs you want Maiden to cover.

Allman Brothers Band, "Whipping Post".

They would absolutely kill it.

Never heard the AB version of Whipping Post but the Frank Zappa version is superb, so this got me thinking if there was a FZ song Maiden could cover that would rock, there is definitely one FZ song that comes to mind, Zomby Woof, not the version on the Over-nite Sensation album, I was thinking more along the lines of the version on You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol, 1. I'm sure that three guitars could manage to fill in some if not most of the parts of the music that were performed on other instruments.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is an AWESOME call. I'd like to hear 21st Century Schizoid Man (King Crimson) with Maiden flair...

It's a great song, and the guys in Maiden could learn if they wanted to, but it's a LOT harder than a typical Maiden song. The grooving sections like the guitar solo would work, but the crazy Zappa-style jagged 16th runs over weird time sigs isn't Maiden's thing.

If Maiden were to play Zappa, the song would need a more or less standard groove, and it would have to be a lyrical fit. There is one superb candidate: Cosmik Debris. (Just imagine this cover as a B-side to a Starblind single.)

Listening to it right now, really good. I also think I heard the 11 to 12 switch. Is it the intro riff in 12/8?

Yes- Close to the Edge. I think they´d really do justice to a true prog masterpice

The minute I read this, I had to listen to Close to the Edge again. My favorite album of all time (yep, even above Maiden). However, even though Maiden has gotten awesomely more prog in recent years, I shudder to think of Bruce's vocals where Jon Anderson's should be. The only way this would be epic would be if they sped it up and made it more with a Maiden gallop.

For me, I also vote The Departed (Sun is Going Down) by Helloween - this would be a great Maiden tune.

I would be interested in hearing them playing ZW and I think they could, but I agree that it is not their thing, more like wishful thinking on my part.

I would be really chuffed if Maiden covered Cosmic Debris or any FZ as B-side for Starblind, I can imagine Maiden playing the music of CD, when it comes to the vocals though I'm not so sure, on the original it is the sound of Frank's voice and his delivery that makes it work, spoken vocals by Bruce over the top of that song, I have no idea how that would sound.

Exactly the point. Indeed, how would Bruce deliver a line like "the price of meat has just gone up and your old lady has just gone down"?

Since I've been stuck on it lately, I think an AWESOME cover would be Sabbath's "Mob Rules." Sounds like a range that Bruce would be comfortable in, the three-axe-attack of the current lineup would make it a wall of sound, and it's a kick ass song anyway. I'd pay to hear it.

I'd love to hear them try a Slayer song, after all Slayer started out by covering Maiden. Nicko might have to purchase a DW5000 kick drum pedal which we all know is never gonna happen

I'd rather not.

I enjoy when bands do an interesting take on songs that aren't hard rock/metal... like Van Halen's cover of "You're No Good."

Iron Maiden have done some good cover songs ("Doctor Doctor" comes to mind,) but I much prefer them doing originals. I feel that way about most bands. Thank goodness Maiden leave the covers off of the albums.

In my opinion, Maiden don't need to do any covers anymore, I think covers are great when a band is starting and need a spotlight so they make a cover to show how big they can be. For now, I guess Maiden really don't have to make any more covers, the ones they already made are great, such as Doctor Doctor(great!).

To be honnest, Maiden is in the the Top now, in the same space as bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, The Who and the other great Metal/Rock bands. Now it's time for other bands make Maiden's covers.

Maiden needs cover noone. People cover them. Too origianal and in thier own groove to do covers. Maiden doing a cover? nope, sat here a half hour trying to think of anything, and no. Maiden is Maiden. Rocking harder and better than most in thier own right.
and reading threw the list here....
youve got people that dig on Maiden have used them in thier motivation and love of music to make and form some the greats. How do you cover someone thats covered you? Id have to go back to the old schools of "rock". Maybe Sabbath, The Who, maybe a Beatles song, if you could find the right one. o, and Dylan, eveyone covers him, lol, maybe something there, but imo, no, they get covered, they dont pull covers.

Well, first of all. Maiden, like all bands, have their heroes who inspired their sound. If you look at who those inspirations are, then you can find an appropriate song for Maiden to cover. These songs have already been covered by Maiden and rightly so:

Doctor Doctor
Kill Me Ce Soir
Rainbow's Gold
Angel of Death
My Generation
These songs have inspired Maiden and have in a way, contributed to the core Maiden sound.

You obvious weren't thinking about the right bands then. Listen to those songs I mentioned. They sound a lot like something Maiden could write.

They should cover Enter Sandman, because then maybe it wouldnt sound like shit. Or they should cover Rock Bottom by UFO, except that it would sound weird compared to normal Maiden material.

Has anyone out there heard the Maiden version of Angel of Death?
Im a big fan of the original but have never been able to track down the Maiden version.
I was under the impression it had yet to be released.
