SMX presents The Top 100 Classic Rock Songs

Both are not worth listing here anyway. When I think of Floyd and lists such as this, I rather think of:

Wish You Were Here
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Comfortably Numb
Another Brick in the Wall
Time
Money
Arnold Layne
One of These Days
The Great Gig in the Sky
See Emily Play

A song with a slash--- Welcome to the Jungle or November Rain

I initially had the same thought, but according to SMX's opening post for this thread, those two are on the list of 20 metal songs that AREN'T on this Top-100 list.

Arnold Layne?

First time I heard of it...

Old 60s, Syd Barrett-era Floyd.  Not my cup of tea, but it is on the "Echoes" best-of compilation.  See Emily Play fits the exact same description, by the way.

Oh, I'll have to pay attention to that, although I've never been a fan of pre-Echoes stuff...

It was their first single, and a pretty successful one, even though it quickly banned from radio airplay due to its lyrics. It's pretty popular among Floyd fans, but not that well-known elsewhere. Good song, in my opinion.

I'll probably take a spin on it later on YouTube.

See Emily Play was a good song. It could save Piper from being a total disaster.

I love "See Emily Play", and I really like The Piper at the Gates of Dawn as well. I even like some of Syd's solo stuff. Does that make me a crazy person?

No, I wasn't saying you were crazy or something...  :)

Piper doesn't fit well into my taste. I don't know how to describe it. It's just kinda - weird. Too psychedelic.

See Emily Play & Lucifer Sam are, however, decent tunes.

Phew, missed em all.  And an apology to the dis against Thunderstruck!!

I'm flummoxed right now by these clues.  I'm gonna have to think about this.

Ah shitpickle

Yes, yes it does, then again sanity is overrated and boring. Syd's solo stuff is great, I've heard some of it, and I am yet to get around to buying pre-darkside floyd.

HOLY SHIT ONHELL YOU WATCH AVGN?

I like Piper too. I think Bike is a brilliant song.

Yup :D from way back when he was the NINTENDO nerd... funny stuff. His SP cartoons are retarded, but his AVGN stuff, specially the early reviews, are priceless.

Fire is the devil's only friend. He had to do it... (+3 to mckindog, +2 to cornfedhick)
#70. The Rolling Stones, "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
Mick Jagger is one of the best frontmen ever. Every time I've seen footage of him, he absolutely owns the stage. I've heard that he covers 5 to 10 miles a night on stage. Even if you aren't a Stones fan, you gotta respect a guy who works that hard to put on a good show.

A song with a slash...
#69. Boston, "Foreplay / Long Time"
Boston is the ultimate example of a band who, given years to prepare, put out an amazing debut ... never to match it again. Good as some later songs were, Guns N Roses have to be put in this group too. The Boston debut is a monster classic. I've heard every song a gazzillion times on radio, and I think the only other albums that's true for are Zep albums.

Paula Abdul...
#68. The Doors, "L.A. Woman"
When I thought of the clue, I said to myself "who's a famous LA woman?" And for some reason I recalled that Paula Abdul started her career as a LA Lakers cheerleader. Damn shame there's no live video of Morrison doing this (this clip I linked is a montage of Morrison clips). They used to stretch it out to 15 minutes or more.

A song that starts with the vocal... (+5 to cornfedhick)
#67. Kansas, "Carry On Wayward Son"
I have the DVD this clip comes from, and this performance is notable for including Kerry Livgren and Steve Morse. Sadly, Steve Walsh's voice has gone to hell. Even Worse, Robbie Steinhardt isn't there. I saw them in the 90s with Steinhardt, and he was a monster onstage. When he wasn't playing violin, he was using his bow to fence with the other guys and throwing his 300+ pounds all over the stage.

A song with parentheses... (+5 to Black Thunder)
#66. U2, "Pride (In The Name Of Love)"
U2 has often tried to sound anthemic. This song was their best success at it.

Next installment:
Attractive ladies roam the verdant fields.
Thumbs up.
Talk box.
Free fretboard lubrication.
If you really had one, you wouldn't survive.

Having seen the Stones live myself, I have zero problem believing that.

Guns 'n' Roses - Paradise City (where the grass is green and the girls are pretty)

For this, my guess is Jethro Tull - Aqualung. Containing one of the best guitar solos ever.
