SMX presents The Top 100 Classic Rock Songs

U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For?

I'm guessing that's the 2d most recent song, not the  "nothing to see here" clue as Black Thunder thinks.  I think the "nothing to see here" song is Joe Walsh's Walk Away.

Advertising slogan: Like a Rock, by Bob Seger?

Helmet: Rocket Man, by Elton John?  Or Walking on the Moon by the Police -- same idea.

LOL, I had no idea what the 2nd most recent song means. But I couldn't find any song that matches the clues. So I decided to re-visit my U2 knowlege a little bit - and that's the best result that I came up with.  :)

Could also be With or Without You.  It is odd, though, that the second-most-recent song would be from the 80s.  I would think both One by U2 and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana would be on the list, yet both are from the early 90s.

I'm thinking the 'ad slogan' may be:  Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man

For the helmet one, I was thinking:  David Bowie, Space Oddity

For the 'nothing to see here' I'm going with:  Fleetwood Mac, Go Your Own Way

...I'm still stumped by the others.

Yeah, could be WOWY too, but I think that song should be a little higher on SMX's list.

An advertising slogan: "Get it On" - T. Rex. I'm sure that has been used in WWF, or something like that!

....or "Life's Been Good" - Joe Walsh

How about That's the Way (I Like It) by KC and the Sunshine Band? I remember it being a slogan for Burger King back in the early nineties, sung by a cow (how cynical).

After further thinking:

I just realized that my "Walk Away" guess was incorrectly attributed to Joe Walsh (solo) -- should have written The James Gang.  Doesn't matter, that's probably not the right answer --  since, as explained below, I think National Acrobat and Shadow have the two correct guesses thus far.  So, I'll guess (for the "nothing to see here, move along" clue) the Beatles' "Let It Be."

I also just realized that National Acrobat's "Born To Be Wild" guess is almost certainly the correct guess for the "Have I got a helmet?!" clue, which based on a Google search is a line often (mis?)attributed to Jack Nicholson in the movie Easy Rider.  (Though he doesn't actually say it, at least in the clip I saw.)  It could also be "The Weight" by The Band, which is also in that movie (and a much better song).

I haven't made a guess for "a card" because I'm fairly sure Shadow got it right with "The Joker."

Other possibilities for the ad slogan clue, since no one else has guessed them yet: "Come Together," which supposedly was written by John Lennon based on Timothy Leary's gubernatorial campaign slogan, and "Paint It, Black," which Apple used for the black iPod a few years back.  I like both of these guesses better than my original guess of "Like a Rock", though a list of classic rock songs needs at least some Bob Seger in it!

Aw crap.

Just for that, I decided to give more serious thought to the "2nd-most recent song on the list; last of the 80s" clue, and actually study what has come before.  Since AC/DC's Thunderstruck (#73) was released in September 1990, that's got to be the most recent song.  U2's Where The Streets Have No Name (#77) was released in March 1987.  Which means the song in question had to be released between March 1987 and September 1990.  Accordingly, I change my guess to "Sweet Child O' Mine" by G'n'R, which was released in August 1987.

cfh: Sorry, I forgot about Thunderstruck when writing the clue. I should have said "2nd-most recent of remaining songs". I will give this hint: your date range is correct. The song was released in that range.
Not that the hint will matter much, as I'm now writing the next post ... bwahahahaha! :devil2:

Well, before that post I'll throw in one more guess for the ad slogan.....

Bachman Turner Overdrive - "You Aint Seen Nothing Yet".

Let's Rock. :D
