Simon Dawson is the new drummer

He was married to Linda Harris, Steve's sister.

Seems like they have had a massive falling out. It's probably why he was replaced by Alexander Milas as the head of the fanclub.
Yeah, looks like Steve wanted to avoid any family related drama. So, is Joe Lazarus Steve's nephew then?

I think it all makes sense:
Simon Dawson is
- somebody roughly their age (who, eventually, won't claim: "I'm the last remaining Maiden member" in around twenty years)
- somebody they get along with
(a characteristic that is-I think- more accurate than "being Bri'ish")
- somebody who won't have to play much lower or higher than his level. (e.g Mike Portnoy toured with Twisted Sister, which was fine, but it wouldn't have suited studio work) - that's why Simon Philipps -great as he is- would have been a miscast.
- somebody who is a team player, not a star drummer, and has been tested prior in another band.

His recruitment (albeit on a temporary basis) may remind one of that of Janick's after all.

I think this is an important point. Just because Simon Philipps is an exceptional drummer doesn't necessarily make him the right fit. Otherwise you may as well just namedrop a thousand great drummers and bitch about why they weren't chosen.

This announcement honestly sucks more than Nicko retiring.

All I have heard of British Lion is so bland and uninspired and I honestly don’t think this is the right choice going forward for Maiden. Hopefully I am wrong.

I mean checking out that live from Wacken clip that was posted the drumming seems absolutely fine, the singer on the other hand has no excitement or energy to his performance at all.

The "stepping in behind the kit for 2025" is obviously interesting.

Seems to me that Maiden aren't looking to commit to making anyone a full member, and they're just going to take things a year at a time. So we could still see Simon in 2026.

Joe already has some touring commitments in place for next year, but his dad's outburst may have hurt his chances to work with Maiden in the future.

It seems that Simon has been on retainer as a backup for this tour, which made sense with BL touring alongside Maiden, freeing up Joe to go and actually do stuff and build a career rather than sit on his hands.

I still don't think Nicko being the studio drummer is likely, unless everyone's happy to have drum parts a significant step down from previous albums.
