Simon Dawson is the new drummer

He also has a Twitter feed but not being on it or X or whatever it is called I haven't a clue what he posts or when.....

I think Simon will not be full member of Maiden, only touring drummer for 2025. I think it's strange that press text reads only year 2025, not for 2025/2026 tour. Details can say so much, if you read properly.

I wouldn't expect him to be. The Stones have never replaced Wyman since 93 they have a session bassist and since 2020 a session drummer. The longterm band keep the royalties and touring members are salaried.

I still don't undertstand why it is necessary that the new drummer is British. That is such an outdated attitude (if true).

Maybe Simon Dawson is going to be the live drummer in 2025, while the real new drummer who will become a permanent band member and who is not British will in the meantime practice to understand Steves accent by listening to tapes. ;)

...

This news item is about stepping in for 2025 only. The post-2025 future of both drummer and Maiden remains mysterious.

It's not that mysterious what will happen for Maiden after 2025. They have announced part 2 of the "Run For Your Lives World Tour" for 2026.

That's why I find the statement strange. Part 1 of the tour with Simon Dawson, part 2 with a different drummer?

Pretty sure it's because they've historically been called "British metal band," or "British legends," yadda yadda forever, and it's part of their identity. I imagine Steve knew there were more capable candidates to replace Bruce in '93 from outside the country, but Blaze being British was important to him then, and it appears to be important now.

But I agree with others that the wording is interesting. Sounds like he's basically a live session drummer and not a replacement for Nicko nor a full part of the band.

Let's not forget Bruce's "retirement sucks". I think he said that not only because he knew about Nicko's upcoming retirement, but also knowing about Iron Maiden's future. As sad as it is, beyond 2026 Iron Maiden as a live beast is very doubtful.

I do have to say it's a bit funny how I was under the impression that 2025-26 would be it, the big sendoff after 50 years with Nicko's health and the band's age taken into account. But I saw a lot of people disagreeing with that assessment, especially with the announcement of Nicko's retirement yesterday and yet here we are.
