I wouldn't be so harsh on Steve Lazarus. Yes, these were bad comments, shouldn't have posted that, but I kinda understand the guy's disappointment. It's not like there was no premise to hope his son gets the gig. Let's also remember Joe is not his father, so I don't see how those comments prove Joe himself would bring any kind of drama to the band. Overall, I think this situation is probably not a threat to the band's PR in the mainstream.
IMO Joe Lazarus would be a better pick. I don't see how him being able to replicate Nicko's style perfectly is suddenly a bad thing. This isn't supposed to be a new band member, they're not going to reinvent themselves or change the sound in any way. It's too late. This could have been a conversation 20 years ago. Right now they don't need a new identity, the new live drummer has to do justice to Nicko's (and Clive's) material. I think Joe would be the better pick for music, for the songs. Perhaps Steve Harris thinks Simon is a better pick for the band for some reason, who knows. We don't know the whole picture.

I tend to think this is how it went more or less. I don't want to say it was the "laziest", but it certainly was the simplest choice from Steve's perspective."I fuckin play with him in fuckin British fuckin Lion, he is the only fuckin drummer I want to fuckin play with if fuckin Nicko retires"
