Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

TBOS was recorded in a span of 4 months (Sept - Dec of 2014). I think same is for Senjutsu (I think Jan - April 2019). Having read all Senjutsu reviews, I'm pretty sure its gonna be another complex album like TBOS.
Book of Souls was from late september to early december or something. Just over two months.

I think the dates are in Bruce's book actually. Once I get home I can double check.

I must admit my understanding of how maiden recorded their past 3 albums was totally wrong. When Steve said we put ourselves under pressure and recorded the album in 6 weeks, I thought they go into the studio mostly blank, with rough outlines of songs and then jam and record whatever that comes out immediately. I thought that is what Steve meant by capturing the essence of a live/organic sound. I believed it even more so when i first heard TFF because a lot of the mid instrumental sections did sound like a prog/blues jam session to me.

However, I don't think even a band as talented and experienced as maiden, could possibly bang out an album out of nothing in 6 weeks. Definitely not something as intricate and epic as Book of Souls. A more accurate picture (in my view) is that the band members have learnt to go into the studio with almost fully developed demos and tons of extra riffs/harmonies that could fit into any of the instrumental section of the epics. This is pretty much confirmed by Adrian's interview where he said he had demo tapes for 4 songs for Senjutsu. I am pretty sure the rest of the band probably does the same. So i assume what they do is basically rehearse and polish/embellish things when they are in the studio and then record it in a live setting in 6 weeks.
I'm sure all of the band members had some demo songs/ideas/riffs ready before entering the studio.

The pilgrim. I thing you missed that and I’m hoping its like pilgrim. What a track man
I know. I just combined what the reviews state.

1) Fast paced rocker

2) Jan playing the vocal line.

Pilgrim is cool and all but it is not a rocker in my book. Also - you guessed it- there is no annoying guitar mimicking the vocals

I'm guessing that there's no new songs written by Bruce, alone, because they're being saved for his newest solo album. After all, If Eternity Should Fail, was written for his solo album, until Steve "stole" it.
Roy Z stated that they have 17 amazing songs. Bruce, I hope, soon You will release real double album :D

So did anyone ever feel that the video of TWOTW is strangely related to Bruce’s Darkside of Aquarius ? Both talk about the 4 horsemen of apocalypse and Bruce too refers to them as “hellriders” in his song. Kinda feel he found a way to put his mind to the screen regarding Darkside of Aquarius.

being a Maiden fan requires a strong stomach my friend. Seriously though, I expect it to be something between The Alchemist and Gates of tomorrow. Don't forget that Jan is following Bruce's vocals. So....
Similar thinking here. I expect it to be someting between The Pilgrim and The Alchemist.

I think all of the epics in the album will have 3 solos (I'm sure for the title track and the last song) - I'm not sure only for TTM and DOTC.

As for the other songs:

Stratego - 1 solo (Janick).
DOFP - 1 solo (Adrian).
Darkest Hour - 2 solos (Adrian/Dave)... like TWOTW.

On a sonic note, I’m glad to hear that Dave’s lead sound has gotten the top end back. His lead sound has been so rolled off on the latest albums that it almost sounds like he is playing on an old POD direct in to the console. Everything sounds more balanced this time round and more coherent - good stuff.

With the way they make songs, I don’t think writing and recording a complete album in 6 weeks is that big a deal. It sounds like Adrian does come in with demo material, but it also sounds like Steve just writes on the spot. Their songs are complex in form but the individual parts aren’t really that technically demanding, especially for the guitarists. I don’t think it takes that much time to stitch them together and figure them out in the studio. Playing them live is a different story, which is why the more complex songs (Isle of Avalon/Starblind/Empire) don’t get played live typically.

This is not to say that Maiden songs are easy or that anyone can write or perform them, but given that they’ve been doing this in this capacity for 20 years now and they’ve got the style down to a science it makes sense that once they actually get to work on an album it comes out pretty quickly.

For me, more or less:

IM>K<TNOTB>POM<P>SIT<SSOASS>NPFTD<FOTD>TXF=VIX<BNW>DOD<AMOLAD>TFF<TBOS

So, the albums in-between the bold ones are inferior, symmetric coincidence?
I'm assuming you say Killers, POM, and SIT are inferior to other Maiden albums, or inferior in general?

Because Killers, POM, and SIT all are fantastic.
