Russia invades Ukraine

I was looking through the twitter #Kyiv feed. My heart completely broke, there were pictures of a romantic couple, two soldiers who fell yesterday in the battle. Putin and his cronies are complete and utter monsters. What's even more disheartening though is the right-wing support of Putin in the US. Fuck Tucker Carlson more than usual ("Putin hasn't hurt any of my viewers directly. It's all good" - Paraphrased.) Had the republicans been in office, the world would have been in an even worse state.

I completely understand that everyone wants to show solidarity with Ukrainian people, but I do worry that the standout examples of defiance and patriotism, and things like piling arms in and giving them to civilians, is only going to lead to utter brutality and mass killing of civilians by Russian forces.

I'm interested in the views of ordinary Russian people, and in particular what the heck the longer-term answer is to Putin and super-rich oligarchs.

'- THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS - RUSSIA IS A KILLER! She kills people, kills values! I am grateful to all our friends and partners for such much needed humanitarian help! Grateful for the powerful position of the civilized world on the aggressor! We continue to receive support from

My country is among those who help Ukraine with arms (within our means). I am proud! F* Germany.

Yes... better to surrender to invader. sarcasm
Russian forces are unmotivated and low moral. Russia for now is absolutely losing this war. Think in other direction - Ukraine now needs lots and lots of support and guns, and occupants will be stopped. If you not act now, later will be too late. There's false thinking that Russia is very powerful. Looking at their invading forces, it's clear, that this country lives on the glory of the past. Time to Act is NOW. I'm starting to believe, Putin days are numbered in his office.

Not talking about surrender. I am talking about 'everyone stand and fight to the death'. Because it could actually be that.

It is WAR. It happens. We must understand, those people have the will to defend their country. "We shall defend our land. Whatever the cost may be". And we must support them in their deed.

I think the fact that Ukrainian civillians are willing to pick up arms and stand to fight in the thousands shows not only their incredible solidarity but also that they really believe in the Ukrainians’ superiority in this situation. The general mood in Kyiv seems to be optimistic, although it is hard to say that because I have friends who have families in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. But I wonder, if Russian casualties continue to far outweigh Ukrainian casualties, then how long is Russia going to keep pushing more troops into the conflict? How many village boys have to be killed and junkyard tanks destroyed to put an end to the onflow of Russian troops?

I'm am tracking several russian sci-fi writers on Facebook. And they support aggression. This country is damned for life. Of course, there are many many people who condemn Putin actions, but this must translate into mass demonstrations. So far there's no critical mass of protests against war in Ukraine.

China becoming increasingly unhappy with Russian behaviour and is starting to lean a bit towards West from their neutral position about this a few days ago.

This is good news.

Are they? Haven't they agreed a huge gas deal? It's early to say, but the huge achievement of Nixon -Kissinger of estranging them with Russia may be at stake.

Not the politicians, but the economy. 2 biggest Chinese banks have frozen Russian transactions.

And Chinese goverment stands behind that and is again saying thqt war should stop ASAP.

It's relevant to note that Russia probably wanted to attack in June, not February, so they may not have built up that many supplies. In modern war, soldiers fire thousands of bullets for every one that hits home. That said, the Russian military should be able to support a very large offensive, if not, they are far more a paper tiger than feared (except for those nukes).

Impressive protest in Tallinn against the war in Ukraine. I’m watching the broadcast from home. Speeches, dozens of musicians, thousands of spectators waving Ukrainian flags. Respect!
