Russia invades Ukraine

Unfortunately, the Black Sea is a Russian pond already, and Ukraine's navy was never strong enough to resist there. But yes, that's better than nothing. Kyiv is still standing, and as long as that happens, Ukraine has a hope of bleeding Russia enough to push them to the negotiating table. Russians are not impressed with this according to independent polling firms.

Lots of nations (not a NATO thing, countries can do this individually) have sent or are sending weapons to Ukraine. I wonder how all that stuff arrives, if it arrives.

Germany will also deliver weapons I just heard, via the Netherlands (Ukrainians were not happy with helmets the Germans sent; now something else). This is very special, and a sensitive matter.

And Sweden's government are talking, talking, holding meetings, thinking about making an exception to our stupid policy of not exporting weapons to conflicts (making no distinction between attacker and defender) and send weapons. Stop talking and do it. Anti tank weapons are high on the want list, but Britain have thankfully delivered earlier, sending quantities of the Swedish/British handheld anti tank launcher.

Well Ukraine has been asking for this for about 5 weeks. It is all late, but they sure could still use stuff.

The Dutch want to provide 200 stinger(rocket)s, the Ukrainians asked for it. Good vs helicopters but could also be used vs fighters.

Last week the Netherlands promised sniper rifles with amminution, helmets, anti fragment vests, radars and detectors for tracking groundmines and seamines.

The Germans mentioned 400 RPG launchers. Berlin is also considering a request from Estonia to supply Ukraine with artillery weapons it once bought from Finland. That country had bought the howitzers from Germany again in the 1990s.

EDIT: Ah, the choir thing might actually date back to 2015... These days are cloudy when it comes to all this media hazzle from both sides, but at this point everything that raises the Ukrainian morale is a plus.

Slava Ukraini!

But really. What a nation. Putin says that he does not consider them as a real, sovereign country. Well, if anything, they are now. And they won't forgive Russia for like... two generations.

Their will to defend their home is outstanding and Zelenskyy is showing some leadership there. Oh boy. Of course, it's dangerous for him to stay there, but at the same time it's probably a huge morale boost for the defenders. And if something bad happens to him... would it crush their morale, or give them a martyr, a Clansman William Wallace to keep on fighting for their freedom?

Sure, Russia has a huge military might, but this is far from being a walk in the park for them. Europe hasn't been perfect at handling this, but at least there's a lot of support going to Ukraine from everywhere. We're all together in this. And if Putin is willing to go all the way to the end, going totally mad and bringing nukes to the table, I hope that rest of the world is more than ready to immediately get together against him.

No-one wants to see that happening, but I'm just saying that if nothing else, a common enemy has united a lot of people at this worrying age of growing dispute and polarization. It's tragic that this needed to happen, but I hope that this will be a lesson all of us will, in a way or another, learn something from.

Belgium is going to supply 2,000 machine guns and 3,800 tons of fuel to the Ukrainian army. Next week they will also send 300 soldiers to Romania as part of a Belgian-French battalion to reinforce NATO's southeastern flank.
My thoughts are with the brave people from Ukraine. I hope this madness ends soon.

I might sound a bit too optimistic now, but dreams should never die, right?

If and when this is over and Ukraine prevails, I definitely want to visit that country. I fucking admire their sheer force of will.

By sheer force of will
Get back on your feet
Stand up you're not dead
Endure and survive

Another evening, another night I just fucking hope Kyiv survives. With every night my hope is higher that Russia will slowly lose more resources and motivation. But going to sleep is scary.

The bravery and balls of some of the politicians and army leaders is simply astonishing.

My step-grandma (my only important family contact there) left Kyiv and fled somewhere close to Zhitomir, should be safer there as they have friends and it is a small place. But every time waiting for her message online makes me uneasy.

Strength to the heroes, glory to Ukraine and I hope to drink a toast to the end of all this soon. I know it is pure faith but what else I got left.

The Netherlands now also 50 anti-tank weapons plus 200 rockets. Does not seem much but all small things may help a bit.

Also, as a NATO operation, the possibility is being explored to station, together with Germany, a Patriot Air Defense Unit in Slovakia.

And Germany is going to deliver 500 Stingers and 1000 anti-tank weapons. And Estonia got their permission to deliver the Houwitzers (of German make).

Just my speculation..
I fear, that Putin is a complete psychopath and... there's an option. He will not use nukes in Ukraine, but his troops may blow up working nuclear power plant, and present this as a big humanitarian catastrophe and call for ceasefire. Of course nobody will believe what russians say, but then all the world will try to contain this catastrophe and russians will act as rescuers among others....
sorry for my English

Putin and whoever else shares his views being a complete psychopath is exactly what concerns me about this. All of this is totally unhinged. With luck it means he's on his way out soon, but how many people is he going to try to take with him.

Precisely.

The thing is that especially in a urban area combat, anti-tank weapons are absolute nightmare to an invader. Every corner, building and alley is a potential death trap. And while Russia has tons and tons of tanks and equipment of all sorts, their offensive doctrine is heavily relying on a mechanized infantry... and one casualty in that chain always causes a butterfly effect and especially on tighter spots one casualty might stop the progress for a good while.

Every anti-tank weapon and rocket in Ukraine's hands means a lot of potential damage to the invader.

I sincerely wish they stay strong!
