Official Hockey discussion thread

Sheldon Souray has been assigned to the AHL. Since Edmonton doesn't have an AHL affiliate, he was offered to certain teams. He'll start the season in Hershey, playing for the AHL affiliate of the Capitals.

My predictions:

The cup will be won by San Jose Sharks. If only they didn't crap their pants (again) in the play offs.
Vezina Trophy goes to Tuukka Rask. A biased Finn opinion, but whatever :P
Art Ross, damn. I'm not going with the usual "Malkin, Crosby or Ovechkin", those would be too obvious. I say Dany fuckin Heatley, the all star.
Maurice Richard goes to Marian Gaborik.
And the Maple Leafs will make it to the play offs. I'm not kidding.

Rask is a great talent. He always was, remember when he played opposite Pogge in the WJHC, he stole the show with like 51 saves on 53 shots or something like that.

People forget Rask is not your average rookie now sophomore. He played in Finland before coming to the U.S THEN in the AHL. He has been given plenty of room to grow and mature, something Varlamov could've benefited from, but I don't think he played in th KHL... Ovi did though.

"The NHL brings great brand equity... and 70 million fans" Um... Just because I like hockey doesn't mean I like comic books or will like this... interesting idea.

The superheroes project reminds me of my avatar. Could be some cool things done with teams like the Devils, Sharks, Predators, Wild, but I'm a little confused as to what they will look like for teams like the Blues, Capitals, Senators. I still think hockey Eddie will defeat them all.

The senators is easy, just a Sparta/Trojan/Roman like character. How about a Thrasher? or a Canuck? Since when is a Canadien a superhero? What's he gonna do? throw Pancakes? :p

He's gonna throw slick maple syrup in front of the baddies' getaway vehicle, while he screams "je me souviens". ;)

Hockey fans are so happy to see any jersey out here in the desert I get thumbs up regardless which one I'm wearing :D

Montreal beat Pittsburgh tonight, and Carey was pretty damn good. I'm happy.

Mike Cammalleri picks up where he left off. At this rate he'll score 162 goals this season.

Yeah, I'm not happy, The Pens are having a horrible start. Granted it is only the first two games, but still... not cool

Holy Crap, if Horton keeps this up he's going to make me look like a prophet! :D 3 goals in two games... Not bad.

Tonight we have a classic on our hands. Det vs. Col! One of the most recent and fierce rivalries created during the playoffs of '96. That Colorado cup team just celebrated their 15th anniversary and rightly so. I must admit though, that with most of the personnel changes a lot of the intensity and bad blood has dissipated, but they still make for great hockey. Can't wait to get home to catch it on Versus.
