Official Hockey discussion thread

they would have one it anyway considering they were already IN playoff contention... fing stupid, alls I'm sayin'

What is really fucked up was that this was Tom Renney's only slump in the 4 seasons he's been the Rangers' head coach. I don't like the fact that the players are calling the shots more than ever. But hopefully Torts gets them to be more aggresive on the forecheck. Renney's downfall was that he is a nice guy.

So, any thots on Don Cherry's comments about Ovechkin?  I haven't had a chance to catch the actual comments, but the Caps didn't seem that fond of them.

Don was wrong, IMO.  I won't say that very often...but Don was wrong with his analysis of the Sidney and AO.

Agreed. Ovie said it best when he stated Cherry likes Old-Time Hockey and Ovie is clearly not old-timey.

I think it burns Grapes ass that Ovechkin dominated the Pens-Caps game and the fact that Ovechkin was yapping and taunting the Kid. We all know how unbiased Grapes is when it comes to Canadian vs Russian hockey.

On another note, Avery is back in Blue!! Let the circus begin. Torts absolutley flamed Avery out over his shenanigans this season and even advocated a life time ban on Sean Avery. Lets see how far Torts will let Avery go.

Guerin is now a Penguin. WTF, Garth Snow is a dumb ass for only getting a 6th rounder, but could get as high as a 3rd rounder if the Penguins win a playoff round. Garth Snow is as badof a GM as he was a goalie. I am suprised Pronger was'nt moved, but given the tenativeness of next season's revenue projections and it's impact on the following season's cap it is really not a suprise that there was no 3pm blockbuster this Wednesday.

You kidding? Calgary's deals were off the hizzaous! Leclaire off to Ottawa?! The ONE good deal they made by the way, unlike the Leafs which continue to shit themselves, I like them, they make me laugh.

I am not sure about Guerin as a Pen, he's on in years, hope he can keep up. I'm more excited over the Bruin's deals for Montador and Recchi. While NYR got Avery back they lost Pruscha, he was a fave of mine in that squad, I wonder how he'll fair.

They should have held on to Prucha and maybe even Dawes. But I suspect it had alot to do with cap room. But Calgary sure did load up. Jokkinen had 2 goals in his Flames debut. He said in his statement when the deal was done that he liked playing for Mike Keenan. But Garth Snow is still a dumbass. 6th rounder and maybe if the Pens win the first round, they get a 3rd rounder. Get the 3rd rounder, no ifs, ands or buts. I mean why not just give him to the Pens. But Tampa had quite the fire sale at the deadline. I smell financial trouble.

I think that Calgary was the big winner, obviously, and I am very impressed by the one move Ottawa made - and they got lucky that someone wanted Swiss Cheese (what I call Gerber, because he's from Switzerland and full of holes).  NY did good, though, Nigel.  Antropov and especially Derek Morris were good moves for their squad.

Rex had two goals for B-Town tonight, looks like he's still got it.  Really, this guy was one of the best players in the NHL during his whole career, I'm not shocked.

And the Rangers squeak by the Bruins. Good win and the Boys in Blue really needed it. But Fernandez gave up some bad ones, like Gomez's PP goal ( they scored on the power play? I can't friggin believe it!) and Zherdev's game winner. Why did Manny go down into the butterfly on a hard dump in? he went down on the right side and the puck took a weird bounce and came back right by the open left side. All Zherdev had to do was tap it home. If that was Thomas, I think the B's win that one.

Not to mention Avery had a 'good' debut too...
Just hope the Marriage between Torts and the Puppy lasts for the rest of the season. ::)

He'll easily pad 100 before he's done.

Avery 2 PP goals. The flyers were a mess, way to many penalties.
