Official Hockey discussion thread

Hm, that is weird... Oh, well-- and sorry!  Those uni's didn't look that hot, kinda like old school prisoner stripes, but red white and blue.

Who is on the bigger downward spiral....the Rangers or Canadiens? The Rangers have been fucking terrible since the allstar break. Redden and Roszival should be up in the blue seats selling concessions. at least they would be working harder in the stands then they are on the ice. on a better note the bad boy of hockey, Mr Avery is now playing with the Hartford Wolfpack.  They are the AHL affiliate to the New York Rangers. If Avery clears waivers, the Rangers can pick him up officially for half of his remaining salary. Could be interesting. Lord knows we need a shot in the arm and the Blueshirts can't play any worse with him in the lineup.
LC, I leave the Hab's commentary to you.

I knew you'd have something to say after today's abysmal game by the Rangers lol. But I must say the Pens are even worse than the Rangers or Habs as they aren't even in the playoffs... So there :p. At least my boys the Bruins are finally doing well :D

Ok, THIS is fing bullshit: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-penguins-coachfired&prov=ap&type=lgns

I honestly don't think Therrien was to blame here. Not every team that is performing poorly is do to coaching. As I told LC the other night, the Pens were dismantled after their cup run. Sure the "core" is the same, but the supporting cast is completely different and so far useless. Olcyck was a bad coach, but Therrien did an amazing job, we'll see what the newbie has to offer...

Therien is a fine coach. They sold the farm last season to get Hossa and he burned them by signing with Detroit. I got good new for Montreal (and LC). The Habs aquired veteran defensemen Mathieu Schneider. WTF the Rangers lost to St Louis? I don't know, but if I was tom Renney, a couple of key guys would have benn benched by now. His head might be vey well on the choppng block, and maybe by benching a couple of key guys who are'nt working hard enough,he might ge the motivation theyneed. Gomez, Drury, Redden and Roszival would all be seeing the game from the bench, or maybe even be healthy scratches. I mean without King Henrick, we lose anothe 10 games easily. Can those guys drive the net at least? Maybe a screen on the powerplay? Get a scramble at the crease and battle for the loose puck? That's how goals have to get scored with this team. One coach I had in my playing days would have skated our asses off at a practice following a turd of a game. His logic was very simple. If you won't work hard in a game, you will work harder in practice. Plus if you were'nt playing hard during a game he had no problem letting you take the rest of the night off by having a seat next to the back up goaltender.

They thought getting Naslund was going to make up for that. I never saw a team loaded with so much talent be so complacent. I am glad they get along in the locker room so well that they hold hands and have circle jerks. Drury needs to be the leader and grab a stick in the locker room and start banging it. I like him and he is one of my top favorites (after the King and Alex Ovechkin). But where is his fire and legendary will to win? Is it back in Buffalo? Is it back at his boyhood home in Trumbull Ct? even last year, we saw him take a stick to the face in the playoffs. I said in this thread last summer the offense is in big trouble without Jagr. As much as i don't care for Shanny, it was a big mistake not to sign him either. But hopefully , Avery will make the big club and do what he does best and light a fire in that locker room.

Naslund is nowhere near the scorer Jagr was. And I agree losing him AND Shanny was pretty bad and Naslund or Gomez (from NJ and as we know they are notoriously offensive...ha!) can fill those shoes. I've seen many teams loaded with that much talent and be complacent... oddly most of them from NY :p.

Where is my Canadian friend? He has been awfuly quiet. My team is in the shitter and I am still here. Is LC really that disgusted with the play of Les Habitants de Montreal?
It can't just be really Ohnell and myself here in this thread.  :ninja:

I'm pissed.  Traded for Schneider, fuck me.  Sitting Kovy for 2 games?  Well, there's something going on there.  Kovy might want a trade.  Hard to tell.  I'm ready to ship the fucking bum out.

i knew you were pissed. Watching the Blueshirts have a Feburary Flameout has just become tradition (with the exception of the teams from 92-96). Kovalev is a great player. The one Caveat with this statement is when he wants to.I do'nt think he wants to play this season. We all saw his amazing performance in this year's All Star game.  He still has the skill level, but he lacks the desire.

It's all about the heart with Kovalev. He did have it in Pittsburg. Unfortunatley for both the Rangers and Habs, it is sporadic.

Slats pulled the trigger and fired Tom Renney. Shit, Renney is a good coach, but maybe he should have read my above comments. As a coach, you have to motivate the players, especially today's players because alot of them are spoiled fucking rotten. I guess that is the answer du joir in today's NHL. Team is slumping, go ahead and fire the coach and get a whole new philosophy in there. biggest fucking excuse in the game today is the players tune out the coach. Fuck what ever happened to skating their asses of in practices or making your players ride the fucking bench when they are'nt playing? when the players start calling the shots for a team , it is never a good thing. I hope the Boys in Blue are happy now because I bet you the rest of the season is not going to be a picnic, because Tom renney was a nice guy. His replacement is John "Torch" Tortarella , who is a prick. I hope he runs a tight ship and cracks some fucking heads.

On a side not, all the coaches who had a European vacation to start the season have all gotten the axe.

TORTS IS BACK IN NY!

I love it.  John Tortorella was too good of a coach to not be in the NHL.  Hell, if he could carry the Lightning to the Cup, then he can do anything.  I think he'll be a good kick in the pants of the Rangers, too.

I too am glad to see Tort back and I agree with Nigel. There are very few instances where I have agreed on firing the coach do to a slumping team. Specially mid-season or in the case of NJ, with 8 fucking games left (Y'all remember that one?) If moves like that are going to happen do it in the off season.
