The point is that if Sundin wanted to go to Vancouver halfway through the season, he could have done it last year and helped the Leafs out.  He chose not to.  It really seems like he had a bit of disrespect for the Leafs.

I don't like what is going on with athletes trying to make up their minds on where to play. It's getting out of hand. Espeacially with Mats Sundin and the reasons he stated to invoke his no trade clause last year. I'm glad he decided not to play with the Rangers because of cap room issues and team chemistry. I think he is a much better fit in Vancouver. But these athletes deciding on weather or not to play and taking it all the way to mid season makes a mockery of all the guys that bust their asses since training camp to win a championship.

But have you noticed the players that have done it? Salanne, Niedermayer, Sundin, Hossa (he signed right away, but had plenty of suitors...) These are players that WILL make a difference on your team, they are players that have been around A WHILE and except for Hossa, all contemplated retiring. When you are a good player a big paycheck is just one of the luxuries you enjoy. Being able to take your time as to where or whether to play is one too.

Needless to say, while I don't think it's a  mockery, I don't like it either.

The whole reason Mats Sundin invoked his no trade claude last year was that he did'nt want to be a "rental player" and he wanted to start on a team from the begining. These guys are completely selfish  and think of what is only good for them. The three ring circus at the begining of this season concerning Mats Sundin was absolutley ridicolous, holding up 30 different teams on weather or not he'll play. Or for who. He is a good hockey player, but where the hell is he in the post season? Toronto had some pretty good teams while he was there. I don't think he is a great enough player to bring it on in the playoffs. He does'nt have that next level, plus being 36 I doubt he will ever lift the Stanley Cup.

He's 38, not 36.  Vancouver winning the cup this year would be nice (not as nice as les Habitants winning the cup, but hey, what can you do).  But it'll only happen if Luongo goes 1993 Roy on everyone's ass.

I don't think the Canucks will win. 38, shit. I would like to see Les Habitants de Montreal win, because it is their centenial year. that is of course the Rangers don't win.(They can only win via shootout.)

Based on the play this year, I am picking Montreal or Pittsburgh vs. Detroit or San Jose in the finals.  Though Montreal vs. Vancouver or Calgary would be a dream series for Canadians, Bettman would just....have a heart attack.

The Cup returns to Canada? I don't think Vancouver or any other team in the Western Provinces have the chops to do it. I think Montreal has the best shot as far as Canadian teams. My guess is it will be Detroit, beating Philly or Washington. I would pick San Jose, but the Shark have a knack for choking out during the playoffs. Montreal needs to get the offense going if they want a shot.

Now listen, my hometown boy Todd McClellan is coaching the Sharks, not professional bed-shitter Doug Wilson, so they have a chance.

Vancouver is probably the best Canadian team out west - Calgary has great players but their cohesion is...lacking.

I think Iron Mike is done as a coach. He is not effective as he used to be. I think the players just tune him out. I agree about Vancouver being the best team in Western Canada. But San Jose has a post season monkey on their back. I'd love to see them dethrone Detroit.

I agree with LC's Finals matchups. As for SJ fucking up in the playoffs over and over, remember Detroit was the same way in the early to mid 90s. In fact, it was SJ that knocked them out in... 94 I believe when Det was a heavy favorite to win it all. Detroit finally won it in 97 and 98. So SJ will get there too.

Imagine how much better the Bruins would be if they would not have dealt Joe Thornton away. I'd love to see him win the cup. Who knows, maybe we can have a Boston/ San Jose final.

I kinda disagree there.  Moving Thornton was the right move at the time.  They got Sturm, and later traded their other acquisitions for Ference and Kobasew, all three of whom have been valuable additions.  They pretty much replaced Thornton with Savard, as well.  Boston is great right now.  Thomas has been stellar, Savard's good, even Ryder has been scoring.

Agreed. I believe it was a win win. Thornton needed the move as much as Boston needed to move him. He was a good player, but he found the chemistry he needed at the Tank to truly blossom.

It will be a win win if he have a Boston/San Jose final. Thomas has definitly been a MVP caliber goalie last season and now this season as well. But in the mean time I am jonesing for tjhis year's winter classic.

It was awesome...better than last year. I think the players had the most ideal weather conditions. No precipitation, low, almost calm winds and best of all no sun glare. Watching that game takes me back over 25 years and the games of my youth. Connecticut had some terrific outdoor rinks. Ridgefield, with its outdoor lights. New Canaan  had the chicken wire instead of glass. Most of all the Gunnery in Washington with the Pavillion. Awesome place to play hockey, outdoors and in the pouring rain. On another note, in the World Juniors, the United States chokes out to Slovakia 5-3. Team USA, in my opinion, did not recover from the Canadian team's comeback in the New Year's eve game.

The USA lost to SLOVAKIA?  There's an upset for you.  USA is a good little team.  Too bad they couldn't stand up to Tavares.

Upset my ass, Slovakia even in Juniors has always been a good team, the US even when they won they half assed it, they thought too much of themselves. Canada for gold obviously :D
