"Savior" is a big title and one to early to earn, but it is safe to say he's their future. Carey alone won't be enough of course. Even Brodeur can't win cups by himself (though he has :p). They got a good group up front too.

I still like  St Patrick best out of all the big time goaltenders. He may be an asshole off the ice , but he sure as hell knew how to shut it down when it mattered the most. I am just surprised both the Habs and Roy have buried the hatchet deep enough to retire his jersey. Plus Roy is the only player to capture the Conn Smythe 3 times. Even Gretzky only had 2, and I don't think Marty Broduer has any.  I kind of have a wait and see attitude when it comes to Price. He's been highly touted since Juniors, and he did have a melt down in the playoffs last year. Hopefully he can keep his focus come April.

What meltdown? I think he did fine. Goalies like Roy and Brodeur are VERY few and far between. Most of the newbies like Dipietro, Fleury and Price are taking their time in growing into their own. But they get there (some are not too far away) They'll be AMAZING. Price is definately one of them. I'm not too sure about Fleury anymore and DiPietro has always seemed overrated to me.

So is Joseph gonna last the entire season with the Leafs?

He's just the backup.  No biggie.

Mind you, the Leafs shouldn't win a single game this year, ever.  I'm disappointed in Montreal.  They didn't even play last night.

Stick a fork in CuJo cause I think he's done. Price did let in a couple of softies in last years playoffs. Dipietro is fragile, and I think the Isle's made an error in offering him a 15 year deal. I hope it is renegotionable  like Gretzky's  20 year deal with Edmonton was. On another topic, who do you think is the Stanley Cup Dynasties?

My pick is the 80-83 Islanders winning 19 straight playoff series and 4 Stanley Cups. As a Ranger fan it absolutely kills me to admit it. But  as good as the Montreal teams of the 50's and then later on in the 70's, New York Islanders of the early 1980's were just a bit better. I would pick the 55- 60 Montreal Canadiens with 5 straight championships, but the playoffs being a few rounds shorte back in the original 6 years made it a bit easier to repeat.

Cujo is getting old, but still capable. As for Dipietro's 15 year deal. Yashin had a 10 year deal, only played 7 or 8 then got bought out. Contracts mean SQUAT. He can still be traded or bought out. As for dynasties, taking eras into consideration and all that I have to agree The Islander's 4 in a row is better than even Edmonton's 5 in 7. though if the definition of "dynasty" is relaxed a tad the current wings should be considered. Specially since they do have a BIG chance at repeating. Seriously, what eastern team can possible contend? The pens lost a ton of players that were key and didn't really fill the spots all that well. montreal doesn't look any better...

Anyone watch the Hall of Fame Induction? For Glenn Anderson, a longtime coming. Alot of the talking heads thought he deserved to go in sooner. He was a huge part of those late 80's Oiler Dynasties (and the last cup the Oilers won in New York LOL). Also congratulations to Igor Larinov, Ray Scapinello (another Paisan going to the hall) and ED Chynoweth.

LOL I told my bro something similar years ago. Half of the oiler's team of the 80s went to NY and the other half to L.A, the result? L.A reaches the final in '93 and the Rangers win it in '94.... nuff said :p

I read it on msn sports (fox sports for msn).  Guess Toccet (sp?) is gonna take over in the interim.

I heard it on my way home from work on XM at 5pm. Barry got his walking papers. I don't know what the hell the Lightning are doing, because they fired John Tortarella who did win them a Stanley Cup and replaced him with Melrose. Then they fire Melrose only 16 games in. Makes me scratch my head, if you fire the guy that won it, replace him with someone who is high profile, but is really unproven (Melrose did have a Gretzky in his prime afterall), it's like WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING IN TAMPA??!!

Yeah.  I mean, Tampa still sucks, but they ARE up 2 places, and putting "We'll fire you before game 20 if we're not in playoff position" out there is not going to help a coach.  You need to commit to a system and commit to a coach and give them time.  Like Gretzky in Phoenix, Kitchen in St Louis, and Therrien in Pittsburgh.

Frankly I think Gretzky's time in Phoenix is up. He's been there A WHILE with few playoff appearances and no Cup or Conference title to show for it.

I don't think Gretz has done a bad job in Phoenix. He has a very young team that still needs at least another season. As for Melrose, Lawton bent him over and gave it to him with absolutely no lubrication. He had a 3 year, 1.5 million dollar contract. That is equal to 246 games, in which he was shit canned after only 16. That works out to only having served 6.5% of his contract. I hope Barry gets to collect the full 4.5 million he is owed. From what I heard Phil Esposito had to say on Friday's In the Slot I think he will be getting at least 3 million.

Yeah, Gretzky needs a lot more time with that team.  Remember, he didn't have a decent GM till last year when they brought in...Howson from Edmonton, I want to say?  It's akin to saying you expect Toronto to make the playoffs this year, IMO.

Melrose was mistreated and the new owners don't seem to understand hockey the way they think they do.
