Official Football Thread

Comical situation in the Norwegian premier division game between Odd and Molde. The Molde goalkeeper has the ball and drops it to the ground, preparing to kick it back into play. An opponent who was behind the goalkeeper snatches the ball. When the goalkeeper tries to catch the ball again, he trips the opponent. The result? Penalty for Odd and the Molde goalkeeper is sent off :D The game ended 2-2, with said penalty saving one point for the home team.
 
Sunderland need to go down and start again. Rebuild and get some sense of stability. Changing manager every year won't work in the long term.
 
Sunderland's one of those clubs I'd worry about not being able to rebuild or come back. I just don't think they have the money behind them, probably never will. Apart from one or two good runs, they've just been hanging in there for years.
 
They'd have done better if Steve Bruce hadn't got sacked. Rebuilding takes time, but it can be done. Derby and Middlesborough have only just started to recover from their relegations so there's no reason why Sunderland can't do the same.
 
Fair point. I just see clubs like Leeds and see how they can haemorrhage supporters if things are going badly. Sunderland has a very limited fanbase geographically, they appeal to very few people outside of Wearside. Even Durham tends towards NUFC fan territory. If Sunderland aren't playing in the Premier League they lose a lot of season ticket holders straight off. It's not a wealthy area as it is, and people aren't prepared to spend if they're not getting top level football. Middlesbrough are a good example, though, they also have limited appeal, but hardcore support in Middlesbrough itself.
 
Forgot to mention, Galatasaray pulled off the national treble a couple of days ago. League, Domestic Cup, Super Cup.
 
What a match indeed. Cheered for Sevilla at the end after their turnaround, so unlucky in the last two chances.

Which ones are your favourites? No suprise that Croatia was one of the first ones you went for.

I am no fan of the pope in general or Pope Palpatine in particular, but that is an amazing find and story. Cool!

I know, it's mental! Yeah, I'm no fan of his either, or religion in general (although as Popes go the current chap seems pretty good). But I couldn't not buy it once I'd worked it out! :D
