NOW WATCHING

I saw three movies last days: Santa's Slay, Hostel and Beetlegeuse.

Santa's Slay was quite amusing, unfortunately with not enough violence and pretty much predictable.
Hostel, not bad, I was expecting something more evil though. I was impressed with how this low budget production appeared to be such a movie, kudos to Roth & Tarantino for that. Yet, I felt a bit offended about how they treat Slovakia in the film.
Beetlegeuse, was the best watch, finally. Even though not a Christmas movie and even though it's not the first time I see it, it fitted perfectly to the spirit of the days.

Best quote: Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?

Yesterday I watched True Grit, with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Surprisingly good movie. I never saw the original adaptation (based on the book) with John Wayne, by the Coen brothers never fail to deliver a good film. Bridges is really good, though the standout, IMO, is the little girl.

Today I watched Black Swan. FANTASTIC film. My adrenaline was still pumping an hour after watching it. I already got Tron's soundtrack, now I'm adding Black Swan's to the list... what a powerful movie, while Kunis was... well... not that different from "Jackie" in that 70's show, Portman was riveting...

Want to go see True Grit.  I generally lie the Coen Brothers, but they did have a stretch of some poor movies, Lady Killers and the black and white one with Billy Bob Thornton come to mind.  On the other hand, Fargo, Oh Brother, Blood Simple, No Country were all fantastic.

But I did see Tron in 3D and thought that was pretty good, it tied in nicely to the first one.    Perhaps a Black Hole movie is up next (really liked that one when it came out) from Disney.

Started watching Archer and Outsourced as well, both are funny shows.

I watched The Warriors last night. Not a lot to say about it: the paper-thin screenplay was only somewhat salvaged by the action sequences. I wouldn't recommend it.

Been layed up a bit, so I watched

Season 24 of Saturday Night Live (Darell Hammond did such a great Clinton),
all episodes Outsourced, very funny show
A Dark Corner (1946 noir with Lucille Ball, and Wm Bendix), pretty solid
Started watching the Pacific (episode 1 so far).

In a nostaliag kick, watched The Black Hole last night.  Pretty cheesy in parts, but an interesting overall story.

I'm watching How I Met Your Mother for weeks now, I'm currently starting to watch the 5th season. People often compare it to Friends but I think that HIMYM is waaaaay better.

Maybe, but Friends is utter crap. When it comes to American sitcoms there's Seinfeld and then there's everything else.

I don't often find myself liking US sitcoms but I have to say I've recently got into The Big Bang Theory. Although if it was not for Sheldon, I would find it pretty mediocre at best. And yes, Friends was pretty crap.

Married... With Children is a guilty pleasure, though. Although maybe it's better in my memory, I haven't seen an episode in ten years.

That's a classic, but definitely an acquired taste. I still watch it if I catch it while channel surfing.

Last night I watched Ghosts of Rome with my friends. It's an old italian move, a surrealistic comedy film featuring Italian heavy weights Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman, Sandra Milo and Edoardo De Filippo. I had lots of laughter, plus the story is entertaining and never boring. There's also a sad, resigned side to the movie. I'm very happy about it
