First line of dialogue: "This will begin to make things right".

Remember when that was supposed to be a jab at the prequels, that the sequels were gonna take us back to original trilogy quality? Yeah.

Watched The Count of Monte Cristo (2024), Episode 1-8.

English language French/Italian TV production directed by Bille August and starring Sam Claflin, with Jeremy Irons as Abbé Faria. I enjoyed it a lot. Some things are done really well here, but not all.

Watched yesterday. Funny slasher on the slower side. One IRON MAIDEN hit song is present!
PREPARE FOR KARANTAN!

So I watched Fight Club for the first time in my life last night, and man, was I bored. There were some interesting moments and some genuinely fun takes, but the whole film was just such a drag. It failed to engage me from the beginning, and the angsty, underexposed millennium-era cinematography sure didn't help. I think I can see why it spoke to so many people when it came out, but the things it actually says have been said again, and better, many times since.

I watched Challengers last night, and man, was I not bored. Didn't have much of an idea of the story (aside from the Internet-breaking Zendaya threesome scene, which - as expected - never actually happened) but I had heard very good things so gave it a shot, and it was indeed very good. Excellent performances from the three core cast members, an excellent electro soundtrack (by Trent Reznor, which I didn't know until the credits rolled) and some really well-shot and framed scenes, like a game of tennis shot from the racket's perspective and an argument between two characters shot in a back-and-forth way as though we're watching them play a particularly aggressive game. It might seem like a bit of a basic premise (love triangle between three young pro tennis players) but there's so much to enjoy, it's a shame it seemed to slip under the radar.
